Well. As far as I can see im not switching for a long, long LONG time yet. Cant afford a system overhaul thats likley to cost me in the area of £1000 and im sure as heck not going to do it for an OS.
Also I really never did like the beta versions MS chucked out (My friend is subbed to MSDN) felt like too much of a re-hash of Mac OS and Linux.

Hmm, that kinda sucks for me. I'm planning to buy a new system come July. Should I wait even longer (which is already tough as nails) for an OS which hasn't even matured properly yet (Like WinP before it's first SP) or just go ahead with it while taking a chance that I'm getting some hardware which won't support some of the new fun options in Vista...

Choices, choices and more choices :|

"...get our HDCP graphics cards and displays, upgrade our RAM, get our 64-bits on..."

Heh? Upgrade our RAM? HDCP required? Haven't heard that before. Is it really going to require a system overhaul?

not if your computer is fairly new
it needs a more powerful machine than XP to get the most out of it obviously
so more ram is a must over the 512mb thats usually reccomended for XP
64bit vista is actually usable compared to 64bit xp so having a 64bit processor will be an advantage now
hdcp graphics cards/displays are required to play protected hdtv content properly on vista (for now anyway )

Hi,
I need your help on the Windows Vista project. Most of our testing staff expects the final product to be on the market sometime before end of 2007. However, while comparing their individual guesses I noticed a few discrepancies. The majority of the testers are currently working towards December 01, 2006. I would be grateful if you would look into this!

Please indicate on the calendar the provisional launch date that you are currently working with. Thanks!

OS 10.5 Leopard anyone? :P

I just entered and view the source. Nov 30 is "early" and Dec 1 is "late"

In the last line it seems that they are hinting that some of the users will gain there copy of vista via illegal means. We will all be queing down at our local computer store at 8 in the morning to get our selves a copy.

Don't think it's gonna be that easy to install a boot leg copy of Vista on launch especially if you want support and service packs and what not. Even if the installation does not require some form of net varification which I seriously doubt, the patches will definitely require a valid key. It's all networked nowadays anway you can't even install the newest I.E without the valid key.

I'd rather just buy a copy than go through all the crap of not being able to upgrade patches and anthentifications errors and all that jazz.

I'm saddened by this, I was hoping for a mid -07 launch. I guess I can hold out hope that it'll be delayed yet, but if its released on the current date, then the best people can really hope for is to maybe make it to 2008 before having to upgrade to use most new programs.

I'll only upgrade myself if either all the crap thats integral to its DRMing the world is cracked to bits, or if most new software stops supporting XP, which hopefully won't happen for a good few years yet.

MAYBE, just MAYBE there really isn't a concrete launce date. MAYBE this website is a marketing survey in disguise. MAYBE all the hits that site is getting is really telling Microsoft when the consumer expects the product. MAYBE I should stop saying MAYBE...

Food for thought. (I don't think Microsoft is stupid enough to label the guesses "early" or "late"...but then again, maybe I'm just giving Microsoft too much credit...and sorry for the maybes, I just think this kind of speculation is a bit ridiculous...just like my maybes.)

Why would you WANT to install IE?

I have no intention of making the switch, seeing that the first thing I do after installing my corporate licensed XP is turn off all the system-slowing eye candy. I suppose the hardware acceleration that Vista should support (right?) would help things, but it's just wasting resources as far as I'm concerned.

I love eyecandy the first thing I do when I install XP is turn of all the effects, install WindowBlinds pop in some Vista wannabe skin, stick widgets and sht all over my desktop but then again I never run any system under 1gig of ram so will I install Vista hell yeah.
Only the 64bit version with all the eyecandy for me baby I love wasting resources.

I cant see them ditching XP that fast, lets face it, every computer bought from: Currys/PC World/Dixons/Dell over the past few years has XP on it, which means most of the consumer market that is intrested in Windows is using XP, and most of these people have no intention of buying a new computer until its "broken".

Call me silly, but i can see XP lasting past 2009. And this pleases me, as I dont intend to hop to Vista as soon as it hits shelves, even though I do have a system that will run it. As said before, why upgrade to an operating system thats going to use more resources than the current one, surely there isnt that much benefit unless your wanting to watch HDTV stuff.
