it's NOT illegal - the riaa just want it to be. what the RIAA says carries no weight whatsoever - it's the governments we have to listen to.

Very very foolish, not however, that it will stop people at all.
I really dont think they needed to do this. It seems to be a last ditch attempt at trying to up the amount of sales/money they make because they are loosing out to other forms of entertainment such as Computer Games.

So what? They're saying we should no longer be allowed to put songs from CDs into MP3 format? Yeah, like that'll catch on. They aren't going to make any friends by making criminals of everyone

I like the last qouted statement from the news post about they will not make it work with every device. This makes me think of the sony Copy protection that prevented the cd to be play in a computer unless you used a marker to block that track. I think they want to start releasing discs that are not able to be read in a computer.

This is exactly why I haven't bought any CD's in years. I refuse to support their position in any way shape or form. And they wonder why their sales suffer. (BigWig Posturing) "Harrumph Hrmm.. uh.. we're not making any money on CD sales, it must be that danged intraweb's fault. It couldn't possibly be because all of the music we are manufacturing has no heart and generally is terrible to listen to. I have an idea. Let's come up with a few more 'hardcore' rappers and a few more Britney clones and then charge 50% more for their CD's to recoup our losses."

I'm tired of being told what to listen to, when to listen to it and how often I have to hear it. They can take their crappy music and shove it.

wow, they're really making the whole actually paying for music seem worthwhile aren't they...

I mean really, the whole thing about replacements being available at a reasonable price, what a load of bull. They've been trying to push the idea that we're not buying the music, merely a license to own a copy of the music, and now they're effectively back-tracking that as well, since legally if you own a license to something, it's up to the company we have that license with to ensure that their end of the bargain is met.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I actually bought a music CD (might actually have been never, as a lot of my music was bought for me by family et el as christmas/birthday presents) and there is certainly no way I will even consider paying for music in any way after this.

WELL DONE RIAA ... WTF NO

Okay, so theyve now made ALL of the music I have on my computer illegal not just that 30 odd gigs ... What the hell do they want to do next.
This is just taken way to far! When you've bought the CD you should have the right to do what you like with it apart from illegally sharing it whether that be copying to your computer, backing it up elsewhere or smashing it to pieces in disgust.

have the RIAA cot a big cas sum from Itunes, napster etc to stop people buying MP3 players and putting their own CD's on it, so that they are forced to use a legal download site and pay for that privilige for not as good quality music as the origional CD.

and if your like my missus she would buy the CD to play in the car/home stereo and then have to buy the download for her generic MP3 player for other activities

what a load of *************************************************

ha ha and the RIAA dosen't even own any of the music!

the american people own the music (at least in america) and they are meanrly applying for the right to sell they music temporaraliy by applying for copyright.

Heh, you have to laugh at these guys, trying to stop people copying and illegally obtaining music, but at the same time pushing people towards the illegally obtained music.

i can not beleave this.

i have asked "would you buy more music/video games/software if there were no way to pirate it or download it from the internet." every friend in my range and every one says about this: "NO!!!"

if backing your cds to mp3 or any other format is piracy i am the 1337 software pirate and so is about 90% of my country and 80% or more of the civilized world.

if they get ahead with this. Ipod and mp3 players sales will go down fast and there will be bankrupcy all over the world.

now i ask you all what makes more money flow to your countrys safes?

buying 1 dvd @ 25€ in one month

buying 25 blank dvds @ 8€, pay your internet conection @ 46€, see tons of publicity on cracks, warez, keygens, etc.... @ erm...... lots of cash spread around the world, in one month

if the only way to get music, videos, games, etc... was to buy it all i would not buy anything, would cancel my internet subscription and use the internet at scholl and rarely upgrade my PC.

way to go RIAA you will be responsible for a big colapse in apple's stock and about anything based on the internet stock. LOL
