hmm well Nvidia have screwed up here - a Hard Lanuch requires proper stock but I think they had to rush or the 7900 would look more feeble against the 1900.
Bad luck to them - this new isn't ever what consumers want to hear |

I really consider this a non-issue, not many people will be buying the 7900 over there newly bought 7800 for one simple reason. People who buy 500$ video cards are not stupid, and we know that G80 and Dx10 are soon to be launched. Everyone who spends any amount of cash on computer hardware always has that smart geek relative or friend that they ask for advice before big buys.
Why waste millions producing stock that wont sell by the time the bigger and better product comes out, only to have to lose money by having to sell the product at a lower cost. However releasing a slow trickle of 7900's into the market still affords them the ability to navigate supply and demand of the product without wasting too much cash on overproduction. I would go as far as to say G80 will more than likely be a hard launch with plenty of product, however with this hybrid design instead of sticking to the plan has fudged them over in the past with the FX series. We'll just have to see how the G80 fares against it's competitor.

there are always new computer stuff on the horizion, buying new products is always a risky move, i like to be a generation behind, because its cheap, its proven, and it still works well. some people are waiting for quad cores and beyond to build an "uber system" but there will always be new hardware coming, but what you have now is what matters, no what you "can have" nice to see nvidia isnt perfect either, though ati is arther from perfect...

THe 79's are a piece of ****. You pay so much and only get a little more in speed and performance. Whats that all about. God Damn so many people think the 79's are the greatest thing out there and I cant even get some one to buy my 7800GTX because there like newegg this and newegg that. I told them the same thing, you think you can get a 7900GT go head buy one good luck.

Someone's got a vendetta
![]() Calm down a bit Marquee; people will realize theres a lack of availability, but lets face it. Consumers want the latest and greatest, superiority, inferiority, or a general lack of difference performance wise aside.

I can't say much for the shortage as I never dealt with it. I got my 7900GT without issue. Some of us are lucky I guess. I do remember reading somewhere that retailers ran into a problem where most of thier stock was sold before it ever arrived at thier warehouses. Shortages of products are annoying but no reason to go on a flame spree. Good luck selling the 7800 though. |

Time for ati to cash in on x1900xt I think, think i'd take one of these over 7900gtx due to price, and currently due to decent stock and none existant 7900gt not to much price difference (as properly clocked 7900gt = £230+, x1900xt = £290ish?)
Seems like ati can benefit from situation as nv did when ati struggled to produce.. |

), since those cards would basically implement the same features, but they'd be faster.

i think if ATI released a cooler for the x1900 like the 7900GTX uses then that would set the market
At the moment the cards seem to be about equal, the benchmarks are close i dont think im the only one who doesnt like a computer that sounds like a wind tunnel or whines theres nothing more annoying when your really focused, and all you can hear is a fan going in the background currently, the cooler would be the main thing that attracts me to upgrade, just beacause my gigabyte 6800GT sucks, they put a dual heatpipe cooler on and STILL used a 60mm fan Then again, the 7900GT is a bit boring, beacause all the MFR's cards look the same, just sticking different stickers on the cards |

I dont see a point buying a slightly upgraded 7800 dx9 card with dx10 cards around the corner. some people are not paying attention or are plain stupid to buy a 7900 or even a ATI card now. I have a 6800GT that is working flawless with all the games i throw at it now. I will upgrade when it is starting to act like a "dia-projector' with future games. Then i would proberly buy the toprange of that moment.

I guess I'll always be somewhat mystified by people who need to have the latest and greatest. A few years back when I worked on the helpdesk for a computer manufacturer I took a call from some guy who had bought the top of the range system six months previously and then moved house, so the computer had never been unboxed let alone used, but he wanted to send it back to us and have it upgraded to the latest top specification. Of course the company was happy to take his money, but I couldn't help wondering if perhaps he was compensating for other shortcomings.
I'll always be a few generations behind - I upgrade when my computer can't do what I need it to do, or when I break something. |

It's desirability through advertising.
Does anyone really need 60gig (at least a weeks worth) of music on their ipod? No. Do they want want it? Hell yea. |

It's a pitty if nvidia have again got problems with stocking up, seems a bit confusing if you think about the manufacturing process and the increase in the amounts of cores per wafer. Hopefully they'll win through.
However, there is one major difference with the 7800 GTX 512 and the 7900's. It's the price. It's possible to get the "non stocked" 7800 GTX 512's if you just have enough money to burn, but at the moment there would be little or less point because of having a chance to get a 7900 GTX alot cheaper (yes it does come down to availability). As you might have noticed, I live in Finland, and availability of bleeding edge hardware isn't exactly the strongest point of the Finnish re- and e-tailers. Not that it's surprising since hardware enthusiasts aren't that many in a country this size. With this in mind, and also the fact of nvidia publishing the G71 on 9th, I got my preordered (no, not from another country) 7900 GTX on the 14th, which by my standards is incredibly fast. I don't know how the availability is here at the moment (for obvious reasons), but to my knowledge only a dozen or so of these new cards found their way here in the first shipment. <edit> I did a brief inquiry and found that Club 3D's cards are available as we speak in small amounts from a few more-enthusiast-orientated (r)etailers. If indeed we have atleast some availability here in the frozen corner of the earth, it seems a bit weird that other countrys wouldn't...although it might be that some of local retailers have some special deals or something, but that would seem unlikely. </edit> Personally I too was a bit dissapointed at first on what changes nvidia did and didn't do with the G71's, but considering the price point they've set and the temperatures these cards run at etc. I think they're pretty appealing (well maybe not to those who already have a 7800 gtx or alike). Hopefully this unavailability is solved so everyone can get what they crave for =]

No BFD for myself, as I won't buy another card from this point on, that isn't fully HDCP compliant.
