Its worth the price just for the fact that the paint job is by Mike Lavalle.

Those cards need some kind of support though! Serious saggage!

The PSU internals are amazingly compact given the wattage of the unit!

Damn, my father won't be happy with electricity bill if I am using it.

1000 Watts will be cost about £5-7 a week for 12 hours.

It has remarkably small heatsinks considering how much energy they have to dissipate. It must be very efficient to cope with that...

Let's see. Efficiency is how much energy goes from AC to DC, and the remainder is lost as heat. (HEAVILY simplified) Most power supplies run at about 85% efficiency (PCPower and Cooling runs at that, the 850 and 1kW), so at 85% efficiency there's a 15% loss. .15 times 900 watts is 135 watts needing to be dissipated into those heatsinks. I believe that's a P4 Prescott 3.6GHZ or an FX-60!
Now, let's say it runs at 90%, pretty good for a power supply. That's 10% waste, .10 times 900 wats is 90 watts needing to be dissipated! That's an Athlon 64 or Celeron!
Now, let's say it runs at the phenomenal rate of 95% efficiency. That's 5% waste heat, and .05 times 900 watts is 45 watts. That's still a 9800 Pro or 6800 NU! That's amazing!
Now, let's be insane and say it runs at 99% efficiency. They're running a prototype nitrogen cooling system and it's that good. 1% is .01 times 900 watts, and that gives you 9 watts. That's a small yellow lamp bulb's power, and almost all the light is given off as heat.
So that should give you a good idea of how they've gotten the efficiency down. If I'm wrong in any way, please correct me! I'd appreciate getting the right facts.

Well done tagan for keeping the su at a standard size Unlike PC&PC (I can never remember the name) this is tiny. The only thing is, I hope they make it modulur

Oh dear god, why Tagan?

I've had two Tagan PSU's, and they both went belly up. The first arrived dead, the second developed serious instability on the output rails. My brother had one that died (I forget exactly how)

I'm now using an Antec PSU and if I have any choice in the matter, I'm not going back to Tagan.

I have an interesting question: how long would it take before the additional cost (over a single graphics card, or even dual graphics cards) in the form of increased electricity bills would add up to the price of the system itself?

I posted concerns about this not so long ago. After reading about Intel & AMD's plans for the future, it seems like they are addressing this issue. All of the coming hardware is being designed to reduce power consumption from GPU's to DDR2 memory. We should see a drop in power consumption.
