If he was my dad Id just use my $1000 a month allowance to buy my own laptop, ipod and whatever else I wanted and keep it a secret, along with my coke and pot habit.

For some off-topic trivia, he could supply both his kids with that same $1000 a month allowance for 500,000 years

Exactly, why doesn't he just cut all ties with microsoft and live out the life of luxury with a superior search engine? And a mac, just to rub it in.

Glad my Dad's not a sadistic controlling bald guy (I'm not suggesting there's a link there BTW )

Maybe because he's worked for Microsoft since 1980 and it's in his blood? For people like him, they live to work not work to live. If he retired, he wouldn't know what to do with himself. Obviously he lives a comfortable life but I'm sure the money means nothing to him really.

Given the choice of $50 billion in cash or crushing Google et al with complete market domination, I bet Bill Gates would take the latter without even blinking.

I'd use the allowance to buy a house with my siblings.

Then LOAD it with every non Microsoft. Then when I turn 21 and daddy leaves me lotsa money or I get a great job, I'll invite daddy to lunch :P

To rub it in, if he was my Dad I'd use a pirated copy of XP, dual booted with Linux.

I'd get a Google tattoo.

Then I'd write a page which looks identical to the MSN search but which actually sends the search query to Google, then returns results formatted to look like MSN. Surely his kids should know how to do this kinda stuff...?

If I was lucky enough to have such rich parents I don't think i'd be that worried about a few minor restrictions like this. You can live pretty easily without Google or iPods!

I think some info from the wiki about it sums him up..

"Once, his vocal cords required surgery after he screamed "Windows, Windows, Windows" continuously at a meeting in Japan in 1991"

If he's that 'committed' its no surprise his kids cant have ipods or use google!
