Im not going anywhere near vista untill someone develops some hacks for it to bring back list view and turn off all the stupid menu systems they have in the current iterations of vista, especially if those features make it into retail.
The thing is they say the vista ready CPU's are all 64-bit pretty much from what I can tell, however it seems that there is still 32-bit vista in the makings so I have no idea why they are even bothering with this "vista ready" system stuffs.

If Vista will take up more power to run then does that have a knock on effect? Will your computer have less power to give to games?

First thought was 'w00t?! My Xp 2600+ ain't Vista-ready?!?!?! Wtf?'...but then I thought screw it as I won't use Vista anyways. Goddamnit why the hell should I use it?
There are no advantages over XP to be seen at the moment. It's not faster, it's not more stable (btw XP is the most stable Windows of all times...IF configured right), it's not more secure and it's not more beautiful. What would make me buy it? Well, I will give it a try if I get it for free at my university just like they do with XP but if not... get the hell away from me you hardware-eating next-gen OS with no next-gen application in the making except DX10.

In simple terms, if you've got a Blue Peter badge, you're able to get into some places cheaper/for free and get some good benefits. It was one of those things that kids in my era used to be jealous about. (cue: OMG, you've got a Blue Peter badge!!11ONE). A Vista Ready badge, on the other hand, doesn't really give you many benefits as it just means you can run the stripped down version of the OS without the graphical user interface.

WTF does it matter? The only people who'll put that sticker on thier boxes are cheap crappy brands like Advent and Tiny. The "Designed For Windows Vista" (look at any Dell and it has one for XP) will be the sticker to look for: for XP, this is a very strict test, specifying that the computer must boot in under 30 seconds (that means ready to use 30 secs after pressing the power button) and all the drivers must be signed etc. HP, Dell and all the good big manufacturers will surely use a "designed for" sticker that hasn't been disclosed yet.
And aon`aTv.gsus666, you're just plain wrong mate. Vista will use twice the RAM XP does. That's what, five years later? Compared to Moore's law, that's no problem at all. "It's not more secure" wtf? Where did you pull that from? I'm gonna upgrade to vista as soon as I can afford it. ch424 |

It's 2001 all over again. People complained XP was slow, bad drivers, no point in upgrading from 98 because games would run slower, yet, look where we are now.
Literally the only reason I will run Vista is for Glass. |

It's just the same as when XP came out. Don't rush out and buy it immediately, wait until there's widespread driver and hardware support, as well as a patch for all the usual security bugs etc.

im here with ch424, aon`aTv.gsus666 you couldn't be more wrong...
1) Yes it is a lot faster 2) of course its not more stable at the moment... its not even up for sale yet duhhh... its still in beta testing. 3) "btw XP is the most stable Windows of all times...IF configured right" - what does that mean - configure what exactly - the bios? thats your hardware configuration. 4) not more secure - er what!? - 1) still in beta testing 2) buy/download a firewall/anti virus scanner 5) "it's not more beautiful" - looks pretty damm good to me if not you can always change its skin (within 1 month~ from release - most likely) 6) Some people...

I'm going to be switching to ubuntu rather than Vista.
I just tried the latest live cd (dapper flight 6) and it's oh so pretty, and even the wireless worked straight out of the box!

Personally though i've always hated skins so there is no valid reason for me to want vista. I feel all the "pretty" stuff just gets in the goddamn way. Sure it can be turned off but still, they removed my list view damn it.
Sure, it will be probably as stable as XP (which I think is pretty good), with the possibility of explorer not being at the core of the OS making it more secure sounds good, but I would have to say the sole reason to get it is DX10, which is not why I want to be buying a new OS. I still feel that Vista is actually too over-complicated for long-time windows users as everything has moved around, there are stupid menus you cant remove, list view is gone (you can tell this is a pet hate) oh, did I mention, stupid menus? Why change such core functionality of a system that people have come to know and love? At the end of the day "Vista ready" badges dont stop the OS being a steaming pile of...
