If you can burn a regular DVD from the download, then what's to stop you doing that then circumventing the DRM by ripping it with DVD-decrypter or similar?

@simosaurus - while a discount vs retail would probably be necessary in the case of downloadable burn-your-own mainstream DVDs (otherwise what's the incentive to waste 4.7 gigs of bandwidth?), with erm...special interest DVDs such as these, the benefits are clear - no embarrassing situations in DVD stores and no chance of the postman / wife / flatmate intercepting a mail order delivery. As such, I think this will probably fly.

and don't forget the lack of packing, label the DVD "mp3 backup disk 4" and the wife would be none the wiser....

I thought one of the big problems with licenced downloadable video was the distribution. I wonder how they manage to support allowing people to download 4.7GB per movie and what kind of speeds it would run at?

To be honest currently it wouldn't interest me as it would take around 5 and half hours to download a whole DVD. Plus I have to watch that my download limit does not exceed 30GB a month at the monent.

However in the future when everybody gets 20-50MBit connections this will obviously gain appeal.

Of course, since CinemaNow isn't available outside the US, the Vivid downloads will only be for US customers. Back to torrents for us

torrents don't have to be illegal... some porn isn't copyrighted so using the bittorrent protocal to download it is fine

unlisenced fansub anime is torrented and legal and technically if you live in the UK and download BBC episodes of stuff like top gear that's not really that illegal if you already pay for a TV lisence.
