Hope they're not gonna bloat it up with excessive ads and generally muck around with it!

X-Fire is what a helluva lot of gamers use for in-game comms. Its a great little program with a load of third party skins and big support in the gaming community
I hope this move doesn't bloat the program up as its a great little program

I can't believe, out of a random sample of 5 bit-techer's, only one of you has heard of xfire. Moreover, i can't believe it only has 4 million users! It's a great little program. Admittedly i don't use it much but that's cause i don't really play multiplayer games at the moment.
I can't see there being any good coming from any of these acquistions - myspace, xfire, etc - it's not like they have massive overheads that require big money to push them forward. I know we'd all probably do the same if it meant us becoming millionaires but i really wish some of these companies would hold out and take a stand.

this software is very comon in WOW players, and most of my CS friends. it is realy nice and fast. i hope we dont see the program being transformed into a ad deliver system.

Im also surpsied most of the people here dont know of it. hell, I mostly use it in place of MSN.
Shame its been bought and its whole ad-free ethos will probably be ditched. Guess its time to find another similar app

I've used it a few times, and it's good. Think of it as a game orientated IM - such as MSN or Yahoo.
Steam has a similar messaging program built-in, but I've only ever had it working properly once, seems to be full of problems. |

This can only be bad, but lets just hope its not quite "yahoo" bad. I've used Xfire on and off for a while now, and for certain games its absolutely brilliant, really hoping MTV don't break it with marketing and bloat, but I'd be surprised if they don't to some extent.

Wow! I thought far more people would use it regularly, I have used it for about a year now and I couldn't be without it. So it’s not as pretty as MSN or other IM programs but it says me having to Alt+Tab out of it. I suppose it is targeted around gamers and especially the FPS and the online RPG players so I suppose not all of you will have heard of it. But it is an awesome program for me.
Shame it might have a ton of ads splashed on its interface soon, if Viacom bought it to advertise. |

I think if they replaced the default skin it would do better. I know alot of people who give up on it straight away when they see it. FluidX is brilliant.
