This is amazing but i bet its a long time away, and it would cost a hell of a lot.

Well, despite what Bill Gates didn't actually say regarding 640k of ram back in the day, I think it *is* safe to assume that a 12.8PB (kb->gb->tb->pb->eb->zb->yb) hard drive is indeed futureproof. Considering that it could hold the entire internet. Twice.

I think, we're going to get to a stage where everyone can have a hard drive that can hold everything. I mean, 12 million GB is about 11PB. Once we're getting into sizes of 11PB, I expect we'd be in a stage where, if the companies didn't get in the way, everyone would just have everything, on a hard drive, in as many or as few personal devices as they desired(and by everything I don't mean all their data, i mean all data). You might have maybe 20-100TB free for your own stuff, but the rest could just be a huge everything store. This is cool, and I look forward to the days where I can giggle at the idea of having a massive 600GB of hard disk space.

I think I will download the internet.

I cant see the need for that much space yet, I could get by on 2tb without even trying.

They'd have to come up with a revolutionary battery to play it that long though, iPods don't last 5 minutes as it is

Sounds awsome, although I think that some compaines would never ship a HDD that big, even if the cost of making it was exactly the same. Making a HDD like this would almost wipe out the need for other storage.

Theres a point, how the hell would you backup 11PB of data

I am currently using just 40% of a 38.28 GB hard drive... That's less than 15 GB in use.

Admittedly, I've had to move all of my 15GB of music to my Creative, in order to actually be able to have this computer run at a reasonable speed... but still...

11PB? Whaffor!? :P

To a similar/larger drive?

I am looking forward to the day we have several TBs of storage each. At the moment I'm struggling to remember what data is where over my 7 HDDs.
