It should have been made clear in the article this is for *evening* listening only.
I think the majority of radio listening is still done on cheapo clock radios, and in-car radios... |

I have a clock radio that wakes my up in the morning, but I tend not to listen to the radio much otherwise, because a) I hate the constant adverts and b) the DJs really get on my nerves.
It's even worse when they play the same five songs twenty times a day...

I personally use Internet radio almost exclusivley for my listening, even in the car when the EVDO (cell) signal is strong enough to support it. Even then I'll switch to stuff on the memory card, which was also recorded off streaming radio stations. The music I like just isn't on the radio.

I don't really listen to the radio all that much. But I don't think radio is going to die out for a long time. Untill we have AI routines that are as good at matching songs as humans are, then radio will have a purpose. Even these days when it's perfectly possible(if often illegal) for someone to have 40-50 thousand tracks of music, who wants death metal followed up by Bjork? So Radio might have lost one of its purposes for existing(bringing music to the masses who can't afford it) but I think it'll retain its other purpose(matching good pieces of music and putting a string of tracks together that compliment each other) for a good while yet.

The only time i listen to the radio (in any format) is in the car on the way to work in the morning and that's just for the news and Chris Moyles' banter. Whenever they play some music i just stick my ipod on random and listen to a couple of songs then switch back to the radio. The only other thing i listen to is my mates online 'radio station ' but that's just a weekly one hour thing.

Adverts on the radio? Yes they are annoying but thats why we have the BBC! Chris Moyles and Scott Mills provide 6 hours of great radio every day, i'm not even fussed about the music most of the time.
Agree with the article though - don't get up early enough to hear all of Moyles live so just use the listen again thing online when I get to work. |
