I don't really get the point of this. It's not as if women have ever been held back in the tech market. It's not like a "well, you've beaten the glass ceiling" type thing. I can understand awards for high up women in business to an extent, because of that.

But this just seems to be a "congradulations, you're as good as a man at using technology". I mean, it's not as if women have ever been held back, or suppressed in tech use ever. If someone chooses not to get involved in something, as many many women would appear to have(considering the massive gender balance issues in IT) that isn't really something to reward.

I never get these kind of awards, and always fail to see why anything non physical needs seperate awards for women. All this ever seems to me is that companies do not expect women to be able to compete at the same level as men and therefore would never win the "standard" awards. Its absolute rubbish. Women are just as good as men and these kind of awards devalue that.

That's because, one can surmise, the common view of technology is that men are either inherantly better with it, or that women have somehow been held back. I think both of those notions are laughable, and I would hope that women who think about this would be against it, not for such a bad idea.
