If it's $250 US, we'll be looking at a minimum of £200, and possibly even more.

Thats too high considering current conversion rates. I'd say more like £150 or £175.

Conversion rates very rarely get taken into account in Rob (Rip-off Britain). Generally the rule of thumb is swap the dollar sign for a pound sign, then take a bit off just for luck. So I think somewhere between £199 and £249 is a more likely price.

If it's $200, I'm definitely getting one. $249 and I probably still will, but it depends a tiny bit on what PC games are looking like at the time. I'd wager 175-199GBP for you Brits, maybe 149GBP if we see a $199 tag stateside.

£199 sounds right. If they give us a bundle to make up for it, I'll be a very happy man. Console + 2nd controller + Zelda and I probably won't leave my house for a fortnight.

With the virtual console, anyone know if Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be downloadable at launch?

Also, is it worth grabbing a few Gamecube titles now before the mad rush starts?

Dear god, I've never been this giddy over a console my life. Quite sad for 21 year old.

I'll bet Z:OoT will be one of the first titles downloadable. Does anyone know of a site accepting pre-orders?

It'd be smarter if Nintendo released some of the past blockbusters 2-3 months after the console hits shelves when the typical dry spell ensues.

Of course, OoT is already playable on the Wii on the Windwaker special edition. But personally, I hope that Nintendo use the virtual console titles to add initial appeal to the Wii, rather than relying on it to counteract a drought of games. I'd rather be playing Wii games, personally.

$250... ummm... I'd say probably £249 in good old RoB. Sad but likely. However, if I were Nintendo I'd be calling MS for a bundle deal cheaper that the PS3 and put Sony out of the console business.

I think not. It's almost certainly going to be sub-£200. Think £199. (Based on past trends.)

Well my bet is still on it being lower than £199. Despite what everyone says there isn't that much of a markup on goods. A straight conversion + VAT puts it at 156.28 (assuming the $250 prce tag) a £45 markup would cause outrage which makes me think 175 is the most likely.

As depressing it might be, I think it's more likely to be the high end of £200-250. Britain has never been cheap for anything in comparison to other countries, and it's getting worse. Technology in particular seems to always have a premium - doesn't matter where it comes from; US, Japan or even in the UK itself.

Of course, if places like Game do a decent bundle of the console, a second controller and a couple of games, it won't be quite so painful.

Have a look around you. Are you sure the only difference between UK and US is the 17.5% VAT?

Riiiight.... you do realise that £250 is roughly 85% more than $250?

Just to compare... the Xbox 360 premium costs $399 in the US, and £279 (or $521). That's 30% more, VAT included.

Even the DS Lite, $129 in the US, $190 here. That's about 50% more, VAT included.

So, let's add 50% onto the price of the Wii in the US, presuming it's at $250.
$250 + 50% = $375
$375 = £200.547

Well, would you believe it. Looks like you must know something we don't.

No way will it be over £200.

I'm quite confident it will launch at £150.

If it is much over £150, expect Wii sports to be bundled with it.

X360 is a bit of an odd price itself, £279 and not £299. I would expect the Wii to be something silly like that too, £179

I wouldnt bet on it being £150, we always pay a premium for new stuff.

I will most likely be buying this at launch, in Japan, for JPY25,000.

I've got to have something to do over the winter.
(when I should be finishing my thesis)

So many games to catch up on. I may be the only person on Bit that hasn't owned a games console since the NES in about 1989.
