I heard that they delay the release of Stalker, untill the Chernobyl area is free from radiation. They are afrraid that masses of gamers going to visit the area after playing the game and getting radiation poison or getting attacked by mutated animals...

Wasn't it supposed to be launched with Half-Life 2 in Sep 2003?
Maybe they've been waiting for Vista? Or maybe for Conroe? G80? Christmas?

How is this game meant to compete with things like Crysis, Quake Wars, H3, etc..? Well maybe it isn't, directly, but when I last saw the graphics, they were "ok" - but not comparable to anything currently out.

for me the important thing about games is the playability and not the graphics, imagine a UBER BEAUTIFUL game that has realy crapy storyline and has realy crapy playability and uterly no play/replay value, and now imagine a game like HL2, cool graphics and uber playability and lots of replay value.
i would chose the last.

You know what, I'm glad they have made SOME announcement, regardless if it has any real bearing of release time...
At least we know they are still "working" on it. |

Also the latter it becomes the worse the graphics are going to compare to what is out now and what will be out in 12 months... and of course they will improve the graphics, but will it be enough? And perhaps they will improve the graphics and make refinements but will they just tack them on in a rush to get the game out in this decade. I am realy worried about this game, it showed such promise.

It was an internal Beta afaik, not that I had it...
![]() But for me it just seems to be a good-very good shooter with some nice new ideas which will be "used" (stolen) by other games when Stalker will be released.

I don't know about the low system requirements and old technology, from what I have seen and read this game is pretty much like oblivion as far as open world technology, advanced a.i. , random weather changes....etc. etc. That's a lot of things to run, not to mention the lighting effects are still awesome by todays standards.

Haven't there been rumors THQ wanted to stop spending money on Stalker?
And as far as I can see graphics haven't changed a lot since first announcement. AI should be interesting as all enemies are supposed to be individuals and every mission to be different every time you play it. That's has been said for many games though... let's hope. 'Till now it's just a hype about a game that has no real release date, some good not awesome graphics, maybe great AI, maybe day/night/weather-onthefly routines and maybe one of the most open worlds/gameplay we've seen so far. A little too many 'maybe's', for me.
