A quick google search turns up that the olympic commission consider "Mind sports" to be inneligible (so chess, bridge etc is dissallowed entirely) further that to be considered a possibly elligible sport something has to be played "widely played by men in 75 countries on 4 continents" and "by women in 40 countries on 4 continents" so .. somehow I think gaming as we know it doesn't stand much of a chance right now.

Without checking any actual figures what so ever etc. - I think Dance Dance might be in with a chance of Olympic representation...

Aren't olympics meant to be all amateur contenders?

Does this mean the big CPL teams can't enter?

Dont really think video gaming is a sport on par with any olympic event, atheletes train their bodies to peak performance, video gaming will remain what it is, video gaming. Also anyone (within reason) can be an athlete if they train, you dont need the most exspensive trainers or equipment. The video gaming market is about the promotion of materail things, exspensive hardware, the latest CPU etc etc. This brings class into question as well, as you need bucks to build and play computers. Recent times have seen athletes from poorer countries such as Ethiopia gain many gold medals, I dont see any under developed countries proposing the inclusion of video games at the Olympics. Please dont think I'm against video gaming, when I have time I like to play need for speed etc, and even own a ps1, but this is entertainment and never will be on par with any olympic sport. If gamers wish to pit themselves agains one another then there should be a cyber olympics, or a mind game olympics. The olympics should remain as they have been for over 2000yrs, a clebration of the body.

at first this sounds cool but then you think about what the olympics are.... they do not exist for ratings, they are meant to be a way of proving which country has the most physically capable citizens. olympics is all about physical competition, and unles they're playing DDR, i dont think gaming qualifies.

hehe, just had a funny thought... lan party at olympics! lmao... followed my mod competition....zomgwtfbbq-l m a o ....

What a load of crap. If gaming ever in my lifetime becomes apart of the Olympics I think I'll go nuts. Real sports are way different from gaming. For gaming you sit in a chair and move your hand around. Yes it takes some hand eye cooridination but it is nothing like a real sport. I am completly against this going in the Olympics.

Or also it was the world's answer to war since we all know there is more honor in out running or out jumping a man than there is in killing him. On topic, video games should never be considered an olympic sport, it'd be insulting to the real athletes.

it would be cool, but nobody outside the gaming community would understand the complexities of a game. they just think players run around randomly shooting eachother.

What?? I can't believe they would even consider this.

Olympics are sports of physical ability, not how good you are at a game that requires no physical strength or ability whatsoever. By all means make a gaming competition thing, but don't incorporate it into the Olympics. Thats just silly.

The one thing I hate about professional gamers though, is how much they remind me I suck.

I dont see why not, everyone is saying it shouldn't be eligible because you just sit there moving your hand, what about shooting, thats an olympic sport?

Pfft, we all know if you want to see the REEAAAL life of a pro gamer you have to watch pure pwnage.

Gaming isn't even a sport! Besides, it's better when it's a dark room kind of thing.

But shooting requires careful aiming, understanding your weapon, compensating for real-life conditions, and it takes 100 times longer to become a perfect shot in real life than in a game.

For instance, in real life archery I can only hit a bullseye from about 40 feet, while after half a hour in oblivion with an iron bow the only reason I couldn't hit anything farther away was because my draw distance was set on low. You can't even try to compare real life sports to games. And why should you? They are not something you can compare, they are two separate things, and they should be left that way. Look at the X games, they aren't pushing to get into the Olympics, because they are fine the way they are, two separate events, two separate groups of athletes, all doing basically the same thing.

while I don't think gaming should be included in the olympics, I think that you have underestamated the amount of female gamers, there are maybe no so many in my age bracket but teenie boppers are cyber friendly.

a cyber olimpics could be cool though, I'd be jelous.
uhh i need built in spell check.

^^ So is sex.. And I wouldn't even think of seeing that being in the olympics.. Especially given the fact that certain sports takes ages to get good at...

Oh yeah.. Gaming as a sport... Never gonna happen.. Besides, that wouldn't make me turn on the tv and watch it anyhow.. I'd just turn on my computer and game instead.
