So after a format there's one less thing to reinstall?

I love google, but I do worry, where are they making money on products like this? If the answer is professional liscening(give it to home users, charge businesses) then it's a model I love, and agree strongly with. But if they're doing the drug dealer thing, and basicly giving us freebee's in order to get us hooked, then I'm concerned.

Still, so long as google keep giving away for free what Microsoft make huge money on, I can chuckle.

I think it's fair to say a Google OS is probably in the works.

Why would they bother when they're releasing every app for the web? Google's 'OS' is the browser.

I think this is pretty awesome - I've read a book by someone who was on the Excel team for many years at Microsoft and according to him the number one biggest thing that Excel is used for is simple lists. So Google may not even make to make it anywhere near as complex as Excel for it to be adequate for 95% of Excel users needs

What's the last thing you used Excel to do?

I have to agree with RTT. Google is netbased, I don't think they'd extend into the hard disk space that MS so typically dominate. They seem to be happy being a netbased company, they're number one at it, and they're kicking their number one competitors ass on a daily basis.

Has Google bought Mozilla yet?

I know that they are one of the main sources of income.

They get money for every search used through the firefox/google homepage.

Yes, but they won't buy them Tibby. Mozilla is open source, Google is not, its just free(at face value free, at least, we pay with our eyes).

That makes it virtually useless to me. Sorry, Google, a lead balloon.

I take RTT's point that most people don't need a complex spreadsheet program (or WP come to that), but from what I can see the MS rival software is the basic £10-ish Works, not Office.

doesn't make sense for them not to make it allow for graphing? If they are providing some of the basic and more useful maths functions that people will use then it seems to go hand in hand to me that graphs should also be there.

I know that a lot of people use excel purely for being able to create graphs for their coursework etc as they can just paste in their data, use the wizard and wallah a pretty graph.

perhaps they will introduce this feature in the future or when it is released to the general public.

I reckon so. Maybe it'll be there when it's open to the public rather than a closed beta. Google have been playing with
SVG
a lot recently - maybe they'll be using that for graphing.

I can see this being a handy tool for those on the move, but I can't imagine it will be as powerful as a standalone product such as Excel or the open office offering.

Goes off to try it out

EDIT - can't find it , but did find Google Notebook which seems like a neat tool.

I doubt corporate business would use it. What about security, privacy... secure backup....terms and conditions...
