You've got to put a little bridge thingy across two sticks to get dual channel to work.

ATI's still trying to get the bugs resolved on their system, which involves running a cable from a port on one stick to a port on the other.

(All sarcasm aside, I agree. What does it do, aside from drive prices up for the consumer?)

If the price premium isn't too great, I'd see this as a mildly beneficial development. I like performance, but after some bad experience with overclocking, I've kept all my components at stock speeds. If I could get manufacturer-endorsed overclocks out of the box, that'd be useful for me. Not revolutionary, but certainly a plus point.

BTW, small typo in the article:

Eh

Is this just another fad or are we going to see any real benefit?

Don't like the idea of having more cables/connectors, or is it just to reflect the look of sli graphics.

Whats next, sli hard disk arrays

Urm Techno-Dann was being sarcastic like he said at the bottom of his post. There is no bridge/cables. The memory modules will just have a little bit better information about the clock speeds/latencies, which will mean that they will be closer to optimal performance out the box instead of being pretty lapsed like they are at the moment.

I don't see any benefits for enthusiasts, but for people overclocking for the first time or who aren't very confident at it, like me, it'll mean the memory will at least be a bit better out the box. I personally find memory overclocking quite hard and complex compared to cpu overclocking.

Hope i got that right.

I think it's a good thing, certainly for the non-enthousiasts. This will mean that you just pop in your brand new ultra-tight-timed modules - which normally require you manually tweaking the settings to set the required voltages and timings (because they weren't included in the SPD) - and get the performance you payed for.

this profile is 'in addition' to the default SPD. It's for people who want to get into overclocking, but have no clue how to tweak memory.

Reading isn't hard... But believe it or not, for some people it's quite frightning to go into the BIOS setup and tweak everything by hand...

NVIDIA's SLI Memory

NVIDIA's SLI Memory,
When will this be available to buy from the shops???

I will be upgrading my P.C at christmas and would like to think that this will be available by then.
I have asked around my local shops but non of them have ever heard of it, even overclockers.co.uk dont seem to have heard of it.
So whats the score as far as the release date is concerned??

Well, nVidias not actually making SLi Memory. Its a joint thing between nVidias chipsets, and some memory manufacturers fir betetr performance.

That said, its been out a while now, check those two articles posted above for more info.
