new graphics card help
ok, iv'e got about a max budget of about 85 squid for a new graphics card but im pretty clueless about whats ok and whats not.
At the moment im playing bf2 and toca 3 but im not bothered much about having uber high settings although i am buying a 19" widescreen in the next few days so it will have to power that. my system specs are: amd 3200+ asus a8n vm csm 1gig veil value ram the only thing is it has to be from micro direct. ive been lookin round on the site and have seen the 7600 which looks good as a few are silent heatpipes which is nice. on the ati side i see the x1600 and x700. the cheaper the better tbh and as long as it plays bf2 smooth and maybe with medium settings ill be happy? so any help / advise please. thanks |

On a side note crispii I think you should consider getting another gig of memory - this will help smoothness in BF2 quite a bit.

i know 7600's have good reputation for overclocking, but for ~£85 you're looking at 7600GS 's and I dunno how good these are, maybe someone else can help you there. If you can put a different hsf on, you might get something pretty good out of them! Failing that, go for the X1600 - it's probably the better choice unless you can overclock the 7600GS (unless anyone else knows better?).

thanks for the advice. Ive only just built the system and as its my first i wanted to keep this setup for a while so i thought 1 gig was enough. later on though, would it be worth selling the 2 512 sticks and buying 2 1gig sticks or just buying another 2 512's or 1 1gig?
my friend has recomended the xfx 6600gt xxx at 80 pound? any other thaughts? |

You would be better off with a 7600GS or X1600 than a 6600, in BF2 the X1600 is only slightly slower at lower res (<1280*1024) but the 7600 is significantly faster at resolutions greater than this, and when using AA/AF.
Also, you would be better off going for 2*1GB to avoid running the memory at 2T command rate.
