As someone giving adsense a serious consideration if/when I open my online store, I see this as a very good thing. I'd be happy to pay twice as much per ad if every one of those translates to a meaningful visit. I rarely click adsense ads (or any for that matter, but then again I've got about every site but Bit's blocked), but when I do it rarely if ever translates to an "action". Which means a waste of $xx for whoever paid for the ad space.

i think it kinda sucks, most of the time if i use an ad to look at a site, i will think about the purchase for a while, and if i actually wanted it (i hardly ever bother with those ads) i would go back to their site
But then i wouldnt have gone through the ad and the site wouldnt get any money = kinda lame .... |

If I want to buy something online, I go directly to the store I want to buy from - it's safer that way. Ads do influence my buying sometimes (when they're saying "buy item x for cost y at place z") but I rarely if ever follow them by clicking a link.

the problem i see, if its a site like there were there is usualy a defined group of people that visit it. maybe people would be willign to buy and item. but when they visit the site and only have to click to suport the site, it works out alot better. frequent users are probly not going to want to buy somthign even once a month to suport a site.
all i can say is the sites its showing better have to pay less, and the sites hosting the add better get paid more for it. to balance out the loss in cash flow to syuport the Ad bearing site. |

tthe sole purpose of publicity isn't just making people buy your product when they see your ad. It's also there to get your product known to people, even if they may not buy it, they might just keep it in mind for later or talk about it to their friends or colleges...
so the action-scheme thingy doesnt really makes sense to me, but then again neither does the click-scheme. How about a view-scheme just like a tv or radio publicity |

Just keep in mind that almost all ads now have some sort of cookie and/or affiliate ID-type thing so it doesn't have to be a purchase on that clicking. Often something to the effect of saying that after following an ad, the IP address or cookie'd machine has 90 days to make a purchase and it'll still count. Google would lose all of their adsense publishers if it's no longer profitable, so they won't do it stupidly like making it necessary to purchase on that clicking.

This doesn't seem beneficial to me. An AdSense link may point me to a website I would buy from, but they may be out of that product/pricing too high/don't have what I'm looking for. Did that site still benefit from my click? Yes, because now I know who they are, what they have, and what some of their prices may be. Maybe in a project log about a custom watercooled case, an AdSense link points to Coolercases UK. Once I click, I find out it's a site for UK residents, but the next time some UKer in IRC asks about somewhere to buy a reservoir, or if I really want one of the hard-to-find products that Paul carries and I'm willing to pay the shipping, I'll remember that site.
