I would have expected one if the PS3 wasn't so stupidly priced, shame though, looks like Wii will be my next console but I really want a X360

I think they should at least lower the price of the core package to something like £180, keeping the premium exactly what it is - premium.

I honestly dont consider the 360 to be that expensive, and i wasnt expecting a price drop at all. What you get for your money is great value IMO.

me thinks its not very convincing

obviously MS would want us to buy their console right now, at the launch price, so excuse me if i take an article from MS PR dept with a grain of salt

it might be true, but im not gonna be surprised if this was just put out there to try and push over a few straglers into buying a 360, and come november, they still drop the price to hit sony where it hurts

Well, based on the "Its OK, you can buy an X-Box 360 now" remark in that article, I'm going to assume sales have been less than desireable for the 360.

At the very least, I want to see how the consoles compare to each other in the real world, see which one has more good games. Being a loyal Sony fan, and the fact that I like blu-ray, I shall most likely end uup saveing and waitig for an expensive PS3.

Do you think Microsoft is making a mistake by not reducing the console's price? Or perhaps you think the 360 provides good value for money? Either way, let us know your thoughts on Microsoft's marketing schemes over in the forum.
Im sorry for rant post #2 today bit tech, but cmon ... what are you thinking
If MS thinks everyone is waiting for christmas to buy their consoles, they are going to do somthing to make people buy them ASAP
Surly you guys are smart enough to work out that perhaps this is ********, and the price will be dropped - i mean the blog entry says "what are you waiting for?"
By posting somthing like this, people who were holding out for a price drop are more likely to buy a 360 before the price drop which = more $$ for MS ....

Cmon guys, why didnt you think about somthing like this, do you not think about what marketing people do to try and get products into you home ... dissapointed with that article .... i usually agree with bit-tech

I'd like to see a demographic survery on the ages of XBOX 360 users. Yes at lauch the console will probably be primarily in the hands of the 18+ age group. I bet two christmases later you will have a primary user group of 13+.

It makes sense for Microsft to wait until Christmas because consumer spending will drop during summer and then peak at Christmas. Sony's prices are not going to help them make Christmas lists and it could make this a home run for the XBOX 360.

The price drop will bring the XBOX 360 into the Wii price range and could steal the show all together at crimbo.

Makes the Microsoft console all the more appealing.

tbh, i saw this coming really, theres no reason for them to drop the price really. not until its closer to the ps3/wii release dates anyways.
@zr_ox, if Ms drop their price below the wii, im willing to wager nintendo will drop the wii lower could make an interesting price war for us consumers though.

I'm not saying that Microsoft will price below the Nintendo Chemo. Given the estimated prices for the Wii I dont think they can. If they do aim within £50 then you are right.....let the price wars begin.

A price war would be just the thing to bring the PS3 within reach of us consumers.

The price cut that Microsoft mentioned wasn't a price cut for consumers but a price cut in manufacturing. This will lead to deeper price cuts down the road as they're planning annual price cuts in the manufacturing. The one part holding prices up though is HDDs and that's what ultimately caused so much hemmoraging of money for the XBOX. Remember guys, the console hasn't even been out a whole year yet so the earliest that we'll see a price cut will be next summer. The PS3 is going to sell out of initial shipments no matter what they price it at due to the sheer amount of Sony fanboys out there. Parents will be looking for an alternative and "Oh, look! Here's a game console that's in stock and it's $100 cheaper!" will bring up the market share of the 360.

If you're wanting to see price cuts for the 360, look for price cuts in games and not actual systems.

You fail to see the point. Bit-tech is simply passing on news as reported (which is why it appears in "News"). It is not venturing an opinion (so there is nothing for you to agree or disagree with), but asking the members for theirs (which is why it is posted in "News Discussion").

Of course if you read between the lines, Bit-tech itself refers to the press release as "marketing spin".

So really, you are just repeating what the news report explicitly states, and then disagreeing with an opinion which was not stated. But thanks for the contribution to the discussion --you got that bit spot on.

It's playing devils advocate, inspiring conversation and further discussion by reporting the main news information first then seeding people questions to fuel their opinions, of which, you clearly have.

Imo, of course they want to keep the price of the Xbox high as they loose money on every console. There's no point in selling it at a lower price when there's no change in the competition at this stage.

No it isn't, the two questions are opposite versions of the same thing.
  • If the 360 is value for money, then the MS price is right
  • If the 360 is not value for money, then the MS price is wrong.
I take it you don't do logical programming?

but a lot of people will then be focused on those 2 options, i assume you don't take psychology either
