Indeed!

How powerful a CPU would one choose for a media PC containing just such a card?

I dont get the big deal with HDMI for PC's whats wrong with DVI? Its a fully suported HD conection and you can get DVI to HDMI cables why not just stick to DVI?

HDMI requires no user-interraction during set up - it detects whether it needs to display either 720 lines or 1080 lines. HDMI is superb for the digital home.

Ah right but surly for a PC a graphics card with a DVI conector is more flexable then HDMI as far as I am aware my 2405 monitor doesnt support any of the HD resolutions naitivly. I am using this as an example. I dont think any monitor suports that resolution. I may be wrong feel free to correct

Yes, they don't support those resolutions - the card is designed for Media Center PCs. Computers that sit next to your High Definition Television set... not ones that sit in your office.

Yes, but the idea with HDMI is that people setting up home theatre PCs don't want flexibility - they want it to work without having to do any configuration. HDMI also carries sound (DVI can't do that).

I think DVI is here to stay for a while, HDMI doesn't have the flexibility as it only works at two display resolutions (at the moment).

Looks promising, but why didn't they make it fanless?! It looks like the HSF is pretty lightweight so may be super quiet, but on the flip side, if it's lightweight, that means it doesn't need much cooling, so a bigger HS with no fan would have worked out fine. For an HTPC, every dB counts!

fANTASTIC.... Low profile HDMI, just what i was waiting for to build my media center. I was wondering why more companies have not produced these.

seems like a fairly good idea, loads of HD TV's out there, but no way to connect your computer to them

Wait a minute. Do I HAVE to use the HDMI cable for sound? Or can I just use the optical out (from my mobo) for sound to my reciever and the HDMI for video seperately to a TV? (Don't have an HDTV yet, soon.) Actually, I guess this question can apply to any of the new HD related dvd players and whatever too.

i dont think you HAVE to use the HDMI cable for the audio, aslong as your tv will output sound from another source while the HDMI cable is used ...

Personally, I hate HDMI. I have one on the back of my Epson Cinema 550, and it flops all over the place. You need to support the cable a few inches from the connector or it'll fall right out. Whoever came up with this connector was NOT thinking about ceiling mount projectors. And no, I can't just leave it alone. According to the manual I have to clean the intake filter every 3 months.

With the DVI, you can tug and pull on it all you want and it's rock solid. Way to reinvent the wheel, dumbass (whoever you are).

Later,
Jeff

because HDMI is a smaller, thinner cable, it also carries audio, and doesnt need to be as big as the DVI plugs - however a secure fitting would have been much nicer (im suprised it doenst clip ...)
