That realy was kind of inevitable. It would be intersting to see if there was any legal ground to chalenge it (anti competative for example)

It is very Un-competative and I hope there is a challenge. On the other hand perhaps Google should start there own auction site and ban paypal.

About time there was an alternative to PayPal.

Lets face it, PayPal sucks and I hope eBay get burned for this! It will be interesting to see if Google don't accept eBay advertising now in the form of AdSense

that would be nice if google started up a auction site. I am really tired of ebay and the sheer amount of idiots on it. I think that google is capable of starting such a site. From their previos endevours I think they could do a much better job than ebay is doing.

I can understand them not supporting (what they consider) unreliable payment sources but a complete ban shows they're just scared of google. They should just not recommend people to use it instead. Google auction sounds like a nice idea too

Agreed, Paypal sucks, but they're really the only game in town until now. I think Google could do somthing similar to eBat, but they need to focus on the small business aspect rather then the private party sellers. There is both more money to be made there and fewer hassles.

Did you know that the first thing eBay did when they bought Paypal was to disallow using paypal to pay for "Adult materials" purchased on Ebay?

You know what this means, dom't you?...

G-Bay

Seriously though, they have banned every other sort of "instant cash" system (I've listed them below), so why is it a surprise that they banned Google Checkout?

AlertPay.com, anypay.com, AuctionChex.com, AuctionPix.com, BillPay.ie, ecount.com, cardserviceinternational.com, CCAvenue, ecount, e-gold, eHotPay.com, ePassporte.com, EuroGiro, FastCash.com, Google Checkout, gcash, GearPay, Goldmoney.com, graphcard.com, greenzap.com, ikobo.com, Liberty Dollars, Moneygram.com, neteller.com, Netpay.com, Nochex.com, paychest.com, payingfast.com, Payko.com, paypay, Postepay, Qchex.com, rupay.com, scripophily.com, sendmoneyorder.com, stamps, Stormpay, wmtransfer.com, xcoin.com

I haven't had a single problem with PayPal - as a regular user.

Using it to accept money on the company's site however is another matter - their tax handling is essentially illegal in the UK, and you have to do it manually.
That alone may well persuade me to move to Google Checkout.

Well I hardly think that they'd ban a company they own

Even though paypal can be really crap, it IS the easiest payment method out of the ones listed above that eBay has banned that I know of.

I thought you could pay with nochex, you still come across people advertising to pay them with nochex. I've never had a problem with paypal but then I've read some true horror stories about it. Still I don't think that ebay should be allowed to just ban competition to its payment system surely that's where monopolies and mergers are meant to intervene? If Tesco were to ban all credit cards bar its own there would be a hell of stink but i suppose its on line so less visable.
