Did Fatal1ty compete?

The quake symbol table looks really cool too!

They played Quake 4 on the new Dell laptops, with the integrated on board sound, after the qualifiers for the event (at Dreamhack.swe and Lanwar.usa)were played on decent PC systems with the Creative X-Fi sound card using Open AL (improves the sound quality in Quake 4 and other games, you can hear everything nice and sweetly, similar concept as the Open GL just for sound rather than video) alot of the top players and teams didnt attend the Summer championships for that reason.

Roll on the CPL Winter Championships (AMD and ATI) where dell and intel cant influence things.

Despite the poor sound quality of the onboard sound, the xps m1710 custom lid, "metal with naughty creature tearing it apart" looks sweeet...the flames one ("renegade style") is bad.
And look at the wall of 30' displays (dell I suppose)...impressive. If they have some spares, I wouldn' mind helping them getting rid of them.
The box with 2 grafics cards and xps logo was a xps 700 ?? (the chassis look cool, bending forwards, as if it was going to leap.)

Up the Q4 logo !

Yes Fatality competed, came 4th in the event and i agree the Quake 4 table was a awesome touch, what i was trying to say regarding the laptops was that in the qualifiers they used decent desktiop machines with X Fi sound cards and then change everything just so dell can show there laptops off at the event, if the gaming scene is to turn into a sport we need to have some consistancy in the way that competitions are run and what hardware is there, not just changing it from event to event to suit the sponsers, i know that the sponsers have to advertise there products and that im not against other wise it aint worth them sponsering the event but people buying gaming laptops is in the minority im afraid and im not gonna spend 1500-2000 on a laptop to play games on when i can spend half that and build a better spec desktop rig, plus dell have aquired alienware (supposidly a performance pc manufactuer) why not show there stuff off, sorry no brainer 4 me!!!!!!

It sounds like if they stuck to the same hardware throughout, then it should be OK. So the qualifiers and the finals should all have used the same spec machines, to keep it even and fair.

Gamers should easily be able to adapt to hardware and setups, or at least I believe they should.

The things that professional gamers require are a consistant machines delivering consistant stable FPS ie in Quake 4's case 63 FPS, decent sound ie X Fi sound cards (as creative are sponsering alot of events then im sure that they can get there cards in there to be used), i also agree with you lazlow that the hardware at qualifiers and finals competitions should be the same, which is why cooller (World #1 @ Quake 4) wasnt there, there is also a debate whether TFT's or CRT's should be used at the professional competitions, yes i agree that players should be able to adapt to hardware setups and they do, but the hardware being used at professional competitions needs to be consistant, either use laptops through out or desktop machines that way no one can complain.

I would have thought TFT's, which would take up less space, giving room for more competitors.

True. It's the same with anything in computing - there needs to be standards and consistancy.

Yea i personally love TFT's i have 2x Asus 17" 3ms screens and are awesome pic1 & pic2 , but alot of the professional gamers use crt's because they can lock the refresh rate of the screen to the same number as the FPS (in cs1.6 100hz & 100FPS, in CSS 100hz & 100FPS) giving a better playing experience, as the higest refresh rate for a TFT is 75Hz it doesnt make them apealing to the people playing these games (and as counter strike is the most played FPS game in the world alot of people prefer CRTs). Reason prefers TFT's for a few reasons, easier to transport to LAN events and cheaper to buy, but it took me a while to switch from CRT to TFT.

Do you seriously game in the garden, or is that just a 'promo' pic. As that would be really cool in the summer, gaming with a BBQ and some beer... an outdoor LAN BBQ!

wow!!! there is a huge diference between 100FPS and 75FPS. i think they use CRTs because of the contrast ratio.

I agree there is not alot of difference, but there is alot of difference in the quality of TFT's and what they can do, the very best TFT's ie the ones made for gaming cost serious money where as a decent 17" CRT cost you under £100.
