but things like this just make me not like them, although i recon its a small minority that complains about things like this, it just makes them all look bad, it makes all black people look worse

Every other forum (that I've seen) where this advert is discussed is full of people arguing over how racist it is. THANK YOU THANK YOU BIT-TECH READERS for not being morons.

One of the arguments I read stated that even though the ad was released in europe (where folks aren't overly sensitive about racism like in the US), Sony should have realized that people in the US would get ahold of it and flip out, and therefore the ad should not have been released. That too, is total lunacy -- maybe American movies should not feature women with their skin exposed for fear somebody in the fundamentalist muslim world should see it and be offended. Maybe anything dealing with homosexuality anywhere in the world should be banned for fear that the people who voted for George Bush might see it and have a heart attack. Maybe bit-tech should not exist, for fear that an Amish person might walk past a computer, see a discussion of technology, and object. If we spent all our time trying to tailor everything so that it was completely unobjectionable to everybody (no matter how misdirected their objections might be), we'd get nothing done and live in a boring boring world.

i think this ad is realy cool

not that ads are cool, but this one is kind of a giant Coral beer ad we have on the side of a building around here, i will get a picture of it soon, if i can, it is big, and it is cool and it gets the message thru.

my cousin saw this ad from sony on the internet and thought it was a fashion ad, he did not think of racism s*it and hes 16, he is a normal kind of kid around here. he also says it is a cool ad.

hmmmmm......its sony....... nah!!!!! the ad is racist and encites violence on black people, purple yellow chickens and marcians!!!!!!!!! KILL SONY!!!!!!

I cant think of a better way to represent a black and white console with people than a black and a white person. If they hadnt used a black person to be the black console that would be racist because they would have made race an issue. As it stands the advert trancends racism because its not derogatory at all, the colour of their skin is symbolic.

After looking for the other adverts with the black woman in the dominant possition the only place I can find pictures is http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/04/ad...harged-psp-ad/ . The only conclusion is that this ad is racist because its a better knee jerk story for the media that way. Evey single news post I have seen has completely ignored the other ads and just led with a big picture of the white dominant advert. The media and cheap online news sites that cant do research have changed this from an advert that symbolises black with black and white with white into a racial slur.

I think maybe because this forum is primarily people from the UK and generally open minded and most people in the US and other parts of the world are a little insecure about the whole black/white issue

The irony is, that you wouldn't see racism in that unless you were thinking about it. I saw the pic a while ago and I didn't think much of it. However, now that racism has been mentioned, I can sort of see where they are coming from. I still think is fstupid, though.
