Maybe they have plans for 3D games or something. Otherwise I have no idea why 3D.

How about a fully 3d navigation interface?

It isn't exactly what some would call essential... especially for an mp3 player.

3D chip on an iPod? What is going on? Apple trying to take a share of the gaming market maybe, with iTunes selling some games? It could bring portable gaming to the masses.

But i'll stick to my PSP.

Well, NVIDIA has its PureVideo technology for video acceleration... I'm guessing that is the main reason.

Yeah, I bet that 3D won't even come into it, its for sheer video playback and loading of clips.... Doubt very much that apple would even venture into the 3D realm of gaming and if it did, then there would have to be a full redesign of the iconic iPod looks and UI, and could damage the brand and it image as a music lover's device...

exactly what I was thinking! whether or not they intend the new ipod to play 3d games, if it has the capability to do it, somebody will find a way. there's never anything wrong with adding features, even if you choose not to use them (as long as "added" features don't sacrifice quality or cost elsewhere)

I'd just want to see the size of the heatsink and hear how loud the fan is before I'd buy one
