I think they're being far too pushy with setting it as a critical update. We're seeing them do this with more and more things that arnt specificaly for stability or security and i for one think it should stop. Telling people that IE7 is a critical piece of software that they need is ridiculous.

I'll check IE7 out when it arives but i highly doubt i will use it as a main browser, i like to have themes, a download manager and when ff2 is out of beta, a spell checker.

Lets all thank nlite for the lack of most of the microsoft bloatware on my computer.

Outlook
IE
Frontpage
Windows movie maker
Windows messenger
Msn explorer
Msn gaming zone
Naff supplied Desktops/Themes/Screensavers
ETC..

All went bye bye with my recent format and slipstreamed Windows disk....Windows would be so much better without these programs.

And noway will IE be getting back on there masquerading as a critical update.

I'm not sure how many people have played with ie7, but i was when i first loaded the vista beta on my machine and it felt an aweful lot like firefox. Now don't mistake me on this, I hate IE more than most being a web developer, but I've noticed alot of the stuff I've done specifically for firefox works quite nicely in the new IE, maybe it won't be such a bad thing after all.

I know labelling ie7 as a critical update is a bit much, but if the have caught more of the security issues that they've promised, as well as the better support for open standards like css, I don't mind it being pushed on people, means less of a headache for me.

Besides, just because the critical update puts it on your machine doesnt mean you have to use it.

Actually, I believe pushing it as a critical update is a good thing, and that's a fact... here's why:

1. All of those people who have had trouble due to the WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) tool downloading it, can now finally successfully install this baby

.

2. As 75% of XP's security flaws are within IE6, making the new and much much more secure edition of Internet Explorer a critical update, is a vital.

I've played with IE beta 3 extensively and yet I always fall back to Firefox beta 2...

That's because you're too used to Firefox. I remember how long it took for me to get comfortable with the Firefox browser, even though it was considerably better.
I guarantee you, if you just give IE7 (beta 3) a couple of weeks, you will give-in to the greatness of Internet Explorer 7, and its superiority over other browsers.

since it really is a security update im quite happy to have it install. though i choose to let automatic update download but not install. i like to know whats going on in my pc and not let microsoft do whatever it wants to put on there.

I think its Firefox for e but IE, will give it a try here and there for a few weeks and see what i make of if, but whatever happens happens and I might even ditch Firefox but I doubt that very much so...

I don't think I'll use it personally, I've become accustomed to FF2 now with the auto link grabbing and so-on.

I MAY try it, but can't make any guarantees.

It is different, you can disable FF automatic updates if you want, you cant disable windows updates (well without insecuring your PC)

Then again, i guess theres no reason you shouldnt update to IE7, or the latest version of FF

if it fixes the securty issues that everyone is constantly whining about, then why wouldnt it be a critical update? makes sense to me.

and yes it will be my primary browser, since ie6 is currently. i'll just turn off its tab features first (ie6 already has tabs and people dont notice, its called the taskbar + multiple windows. its actually better since if one "tab" needs to close then i dont lose all my "tabs").

I'll stick with the genuine article...mozilla. Besides when I was on beta 2, it used to slaughter my RAM...and that was 384....

Mind you....decent rig working....new beta....maybe i'll give it another go in the morning..

oh, before i forget to ask, are they going to let you put the file menu bar at the top like its supposed to be? or is it still locked and unmovable like the last time i tried ie7. Cuz thats a big deal-breaker for me...if i cant have it on the top like EVERYTHING else, that might actually push me away from IE and toward one of those other browsers.
