Well, it's nice to know that just the fact that you have an IP address can't get you charged a few k by the RIAA, but the fact that they could even think of taking a case like that to court is scary.

I like forward to their demise, or mine.

This is pretty big. It's analagous to the case in the UK where a bloke's van was caught on a speed camera and he successfully defended the claim on the basis that the vehicle could have been being used by any one of his several employees. In other words, while the cops could prove the van was speeding and that a traffic offence was committed, they could not prove beyond reasonable doubt which of several potential drivers had committed the offence.

I have often thought this about Wi-Fi - it would be very easy, on a charge of copyright infringement, to claim that someone else must have been using your wireless network without your permission, and it had been they who were illegally sharing files. Unfortunately, that would only work if your PC was clean of infringing material when forensics picked through it.

I officially have my wireless connection open to anyone.
If you happen to be in south of Rome you are more than welcome to use my bandwith.

This is good news, but I for one can't wait to see what will happen in the lawsuit
against that millionair. Now thát would be an awesome spectacle, with RIAA/MPAA
getting the poo beaten out of them
