Jobs is just jealous. 2% market share compared to Windows? You are a small fish (in comparison) and you wish you were Bill. Sorry really don't like the Egomaniac - even worse now he's a director of the nazi mouse house.

Presumably because you're running an illegal copy of XP?

all patched and secure \o/

I think jobs is getting a little worried, because vista is "so much like OS X" what would the argument now be with moving to OS X?
Vista is looking better and better every time I see it. It might have loads of security bugs when its released and it will probably still get attacked by Mac lovers everywhere. But it will still be a good OS that gets the job done most of the time.

I didn't even know I'd got them until I came to shut down. XP just seems to quietly get on with things.

Agreed, i might be very mis-informed but wouldn't the prevalence of home computers be nowhere as big if MS had never existed?

If Jobs hates MS so much why release iPods/iTunes that will work on Windows, surely he's just cashing in on MS marketshare?

He can hate windows all he wants, but he wants to make good business. Making an MP3 player that only works with one operating system would've lead to (and sort-of has, with linux boxes) people breaking the software down, or making their own, or simply not buying into itunes/ipod. Apple and MS being the two big OS's out there that any layman knows about means that however much as apple claws at MS, they still-for profit's sake-make nice to MS customers. Don't mistake the compatability of iTunes as a favor to MS.

That's an idiotic comment by Jobs if in fact he did say it. Microsoft doesn't only make OS'. They have massive diversity and own a lot of other companies: that's how they are one of the biggest companies on earth. A few billion on R&D spread across the whole company is no supprise at all tbh.

jobs just wishes he had $7,000,000,000 to toss around on R&D, that R&D budget covers a wide spectrum of products and technologies, and im not surprised by the figure, it will pay off for MS in the long run.

He's just thinking about the PC operating systems. What about when you compare their Xserve's OS to Windows Server? Or what about Xcode in comparison to Visual Studio? There are a lot of other things that Microsoft take lead in, in terms of innovation. Even so, Windows for PC is well arguably better. For example with Windows XP, compared to the closest release date of Mac OS X, which is Jaguar, Windows XP was much more feature packed than that and had a lot more original stuff, and I think it will be the same with Vista and Leopard.

If you ask me, Steve Jobs is all just 'mouth'.

Agreed, I really don't see what everyone thinks is so good about the crap Apple gives us (obviously I'm biased).

Ya nasty wee jobbie! MS must have spent a couple or three dollars on the next Office, and the upcoming Microsoft Vibrator is sure to go. Up yours, Steve!

*gasp* About 8.6mb this month (skipped WGA, its a hair under 1mb), I better switch to MacOS! Wait, I can't afford a Mac and don't want to give up bleeding-edge hardware and software.

Okay, Linux! Wait.. Gentoo from bootstrap takes approximately 23.4 billion years to compile.. okay, I'll just run Ubuntu, everybody loves Ubuntu! ::month later:: Time to update! Lets fire up Synaptic (I think thats what it was called) and surely my updates shall be smaller and of a non-security type. Oh noes! 40mb and tons of security hole patches! But at least I don't have to reboot!

Sorry Couldn't help it, but the grass is no greener over any other fences.. Any OS connected to the intarweb will always, always be insecure Update occured for me in about 1/5 the time it took to write this post. Gotta reboot apparently, but not forced to, and probably wont for at least four or five days.

Edit: I sure bet you hate game patches, esp the 150-300mb ones.. even on cable that takes ages..

Edit 2: Speaking of Vista, I bet you are right though; I bet our first welcome screen upon first booting to Vista will be "There are updates waiting for you to download...."
