Wasn't this pseudo-hinted at E3, after Nintendo said "Dev on our console!"

Good Idea though.

Also, my Uni will buy about 100+ of em, they only have GBA and PS2 dev kits at the moment.

EDIT: my 1337 post!

sounds uterly lame, whats the point in the kit if only simple games can be developed when there are well established methords of making simple games for pc.

The point is the network for getting 360 games out via live is far easier then getting them out for PC, you don't need to faff about with hosting for it. Just upload it to MS.

And you'll have a bigger audience

great idea. There will be an unbelievable load of trash though, but i can imagine that there will be some quality stuff as well...

I wonder how many times people will wonder why their poc man, or ping, or sonic the rabbit game gets a low rating.

Someone burnt down their opponents house, because they suck at a game?

What a hot head

Apparently, an arson that took place on Thursday last week in Seattle was a result of one 20 year old throwing another resident's Xbox from a window onto the front yard.
kenco_uk

nope it was because the other guy trew the console out of the window.

about this homebrew games thing..... it can be quite cool, lets say i want to play "something" i want to play it on my 360 and i want it free, then i go to the youmicrsosoftgames site and browse the free games section and play something.

this can be also cool to look for new talents and new game tipes and plots, game quality will increase and microsoft will profit with adds on the site and with more 360 purcheses possibly making 360 consoles and games cheaper and better bye bye PS3

The fight then escalated until one of the combatants decided the best course of action was to burn down the house. A great demonstration on how not to take being beaten at Halo.

Finally it's coming out, and I can't wait! This is a great way to practise my development on, and I can make games multiplatform for the Xbox 360 and PC (and Windows Mobile) without having to muck around with modding it to work on the different hardware. Plus, the XNA network is based on the .net framework 2.0 .

I can imagine this being a similair sutuation to the Net Yaroze system for the PSX, 99% was utter crap, but there were a few japanese RPGs that really showed the professional opposition how it's supposed to be done

I think some of you are getting carried away. There won't be a sudden influx of rubbishy games appearing on the 360, as you can only share your games with others who are subscribed to the service ($99/year).

Quote:
Q: How exactly can I share my 360 game to other 360 users? Will my game only be available to people with the XNA "Creators Club" subscription? Will it be available to all 360 users that have an Xbox Live account?
A: There is currently no supported way to share binaries on the Xbox 360. Currently, there are four requirements that must be met in order to share a game targeting Xbox 360 which is developed with XNA Game Studio Express.
1. The individual you are planning to share the game with must be logged in to Xbox Live and have an active subscription to the XNA Creators Club
2. The receiving user must have downloaded the XNA Framework runtime environment for the Xbox 360
3. The receiving user must have XNA Game Studio Express installed on their own development PC
4. The game project, including all source and content assets, must be shared with the receiving user. The receiving user then compiles and deploys the game to their Xbox 360.

Sod that, paying what ever for live and $99 for creators club just to play another remake of pong and space invaders.

My PS2 came with a developer kit of some kind and was free. never got used once. Doubt ill pay $99 to be able to play lame games made by kids.

Seriously, how many 'kids' will be spending $99 on this, plus have the patience to learn how to code even a simple game?

Personally, I think it'll be great. Can't wait to get a couple of my 'lame games' on the 360

No actually, all you need is a Live subscription, Silver will suffice, and you can download the games, just as with any other download on Live.

Actually, you need it to play and make games, so 99$ even just to play.

Linux won't be ported, microsoft checks the code personally before uploading it to the servers

I don't even know why that's being mentioned in an article about XNA. It seems completely out of place.
