I hate when i come across these sites when I forget to add a vowel or a stoopid spelling error, like youttube.com...
I prefer the trusty 404...

I think that any motion by Microsoft to sue Google over other people cybersquatting wouldn't even get as far as the courts. It has nothing to do with Google (or Yahoo, or Ask or any other search engine), and it's not as though those companies are actively promoting cybersquatter sites over real MS sites.

Cybersquatters are scum, but some of the blame has to be with the registrars - it shouldn't take too much to look for major corporation names in the domains being registered, and ask for proof before it's completed.

I seem to remember back in the early days that you had to provide proof that you were a non-profit organisation before you could register a .org domain (likewise, that you were a network provider for .net domains). It seems now that the whole world and their dog has .org or .net domains

PS - my dog doesn't have her own domain yet, but it's just a matter of time before she gets hooked on the interweb. As long as she's not surfing doggie porn (dogs doing it human style ), that's fine by me. Oh, and as long as she wipes the drool off the keyboard too...

Meh, another ruse to raise the old Microsoft Funds?

Why don't Microsoft just hire Detectives to find out about the real owners, a papertrail has to lead somewhere.

I hardly think cybersquatters have the sort of funds to trigger a greed reaction in Microsoft - that's the job of Google and small countries. But I'm glad they're putting their armies of lawyers to some sort of good use. It's a pity the price-checker websites that seem to fill the first few pages of any Google search aren't doing anything illegal - I'd love to see them squished by a few heavy-handed lawsuits.

Nobody wants to give an opinion on who would back down first in a Microsoft versus Google battle - is that because nobody thinks it would ever come to that?

My personal feeling is that Microsoft are in charge purely because their operating system is what allows people access to Google. I could however see some kind of merger happen in the future between one of the big search engines and Microsoft. Maybe Yahoo?

Microsoft vs Google is kinda like the cold war, they both have things which could destroy the entire world, so they're too scared to use them.

Can you imagine the internet without Google? Or without Windows? It just would never work.

Cybersquatters must be making money so thats what Microsoft wants to get, lost earnings and the like.

meh, I used other search engines before Google (still miss infoseek) and the internet works fine with Linux & Mac (If it wasn't for games I'd switch in a heartbeat).

Actually in this case (not like the Mike Rowe Soft case) I'm behind Macro$loth. No one else should have rights to the names listed in the article. Cybersquaters are the greedy idiots trying to make a fast buck by stealing someone else's name.

If Microsoft did go after someone like Google or Yahoo and said 'We're going to sue you because you are not being responsible enough for keeping that stuff out of there,'
That's already been tested in court and Microsoft won't want any change or their own search engine is affected. It's Google's (or anybody else's, such as the domain host's) duty to remove the site in a reasonable time if a complaint is justified. I can't see any innocent party having a problem with that.

It's not just MS. Every bank, building society, etc, has a problem with fake phishing sites . Was a time they just re-directed you to porn, now its usually more sinister than advertising revenue.

I'm not talking about Google the search engine, people seem to fail to realise that Google is an entire company.

Can you imagine how many companies rely on google Ads?

How many small local businesses rely on Google Maps?

How much security (before IE7 and FF began to intergrate it) relies on the Google Toolbar?

How many mobile devices use google as a port of call?

Blogger?

Groups?

Translate?

Can you name something which does EVERYTHING in one easy to use site better then or equal to Google?
