So will the Kenstfield processors be drop-in replacement for the current Core2 Duo processors?

Im looking to upgrade shortly and dont want to get a whole new motherboard just to get quad-core.

Intel just keep pulling the Kentsfield release date forward...

Even if Kentsfield has thermals similar to the horrors of Prescott or Smithfield, it'll still be a damned impressive bit of silicon.

edit: I can't spell.

cool but 1000 bucks usd is out of my league. so i'm wondering when we'll see quad core for less than 600usd. as of now im planning on a e6600 when the asus nv590 board comes out (maybe in a week?) but if i knew a sub-600$ kentsfeild was coming soon i might hold off and save up the extra 250$. anyone hear the timetable on non-Extreme kentsfield?

Yea next week they're telling it has been released a long time ago.
But I actually am looking forward to Kentsfield. Not that I had the money for it but I hope Conroe's pricing will drop a bit/lot.

I don't believe that it will change Core 2 Duo pricing. They've pushed AMD to drastically drop prices already. Intel can probably keep those prices where they are and charge a huge premium for the new ones.

It worked for the bit-tech server so they decided to release it sooner

I'd call it "Quad" so I could have a 2.6 gigaquad computer (I admit it's not a perfect use but I find it amusing)

Me I'm lookin at buyin 2 of them Super cpus(Kentsfield), But then I crunch numbers for Seti and I've had fortune smile on Me by way of My late Aunt, She left Me near $71k, tax free. A used 1983 mobilehome(I rent currently and being disabled I exist on SSI and I have to use It up quick and No investment advice as I can only have up to $2000 in savings, period), 73" TV and a new 2006 Mustang GT(near $32k) among other things will round this out and the PC expansion/upgrade budget is around $7.3k. So I can't complain, I may even have enough for Vista Ultimate, Maybe. After I take the relatives out for Dinner, Sizzler maybe?

Hmm, so you're bragging that one of your relatives passed away?

I was going to upgrade to Dual Core until Bit-Tech broke the news that the quads would be here before year end, the fact they may be in November has certainly made me smile.
I suppose I better start giving thought to which motherboard now then, any suggestions or ideas about the best for Kentsfield processors when they get here?
