Fantastic news. I hope more cases get dropped after other people accused take the same stance. F the R I double A!

Somehow I'm not surprised that they would pull out rather than risk a precedent being set against them.

The whole RIAA position seems a bit ludicrous to me, comes over like :
"Hey judge, this guy isn't just coughing up money to us! no fair! Let us have his hard drive so we can manuf*cough* .. I obviously mean find the evidence that he has done something we can sue him for !!"

Ditto most of the above. Good for the guy, and hopefully this'll help shut down the XXAA's lawsuits.

That's what I was thinking!

Can he push for a ruling on whether the RIAA can legally ask to search his HDD?
If he could, and they ruled that they couldn't, wouldn't that help to prevent the RIAA trying such crap in future?

Congrats to the guy, avoiding a fine is always good, but you have to wonder how sloppy the RIAA's case was - I mean, if your going to take him to court for copyright infringement, you'd think that they might want to take a look at his hard drive before they went to court! (or was this the guy that wiped his HDD before they could get a look at it?)

I think he should countersue, I don't really like the whole sueing society we have today but the RIAA deserve it.

Doesn't surprise me, since the RIAA knows full well they have no case, and are just engaging in illegal (at least in the US) scare tactics. I'm really hoping that someone with some real money *cough*google*cough* presses criminal charges under the RICO act.

I have read that Wal-Mart is taking suite with RIAA because they are tired of high CD prices screwing up their sales. Finally, someone big is fighting them to say what we have all said since this mess started.

After sueing little girls and dead guys, RIAA just needs to die along with thier ancient business model and leave us alone.

Seriously, does anyone even know what they do besides sue people and keep record prices high?

RIAA pwned. Honestly you are going to need more than wishes and dreams to convict someone of these crimes. Hopefully now they see that.
