"As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it."

How can they bash windows after doing something like this?
This is rather disgusting...

Why are you bashing Apple for this? Its not the only time problems have happened with MP3 players.

Does anyone remember the 10,000 MP3 players that McDonalds gave out as competition prizes?

Oh yeah, and remember the Creative debacle?

This is simply a problem from virus writers and hackers getting into manufacturing plants. Manufacturing plant problem (probably Foxconn for Apple)

Irrelevant. Apple is the company whose brand is on the product, and it is Apple's reputation that is on the line. Apple owes a duty of care to its customers, and that means avoiding things like this, whether by better quality control or tighter software programming. It strikes me as odd that any code on the player's harddrive should ever have cause to be copied to system memory and executed - that is a fault with iTunes, for which Apple is most definitely directly responsible.

Additionally, to bash MS for allowing Windows to have such flaws is pretty underhand. Poor show, Apple.

Seconded - how does that work, then? Surely all data should be flowing downstream?

They might as well have said "we are sorry, but if you run Windows then it's your own fault".

You'll note that on the Apple press release, there's no "We're sorry". They allow virii to get onto their hardware somewhere, and then don't even have the good grace to apologise for it.

I also think that when your acknowledging that you potentially screwed up a load of customers' PCs, maybe it's not the time to be the smartalec.

the ipod is an external hard drive and your computer sees it as such. If there is a virus on a hard drive connected to your computer there is nothing itunes can do about it.

how could you possibly say that apple is one of the least green computer companies? Do you believe everything you read on the internet without EVER BOTHERING TO LOOK INTO IT?

Also - if a virus gets added to the iPod disk image at a third party (not apple) factory, how does that make Steve Jobs into Hitler? (Check the link - you people need it.)

You lot do realise it was because of a Windows box on the production line that infected the iPods? They're not telling people that it's their own fault if they use Windows, they are saying that because of Windows being used to manufacture iPods it has become infected.
