It's not the first time Microsoft have done it. I remember when AntiSpyware labelled Firefox as spyware or whatever, lol.

Google is an advertising company, if you don't think they won't try and make money off you then you're a bit silly.

Exactly, and compared to MANY internet companies, Google's methods are pretty transparent and fair IMO. If you don't want the toolbar, don't install it. Personally I quite like it - I use the autofill for online forms and I like the ability to search straight from the toolbar, plus the dropdown of previous searches for faster access.

I use the Google toolbar for Firefox, but only because I love the spell checker. Other than that, there really is anything on it that I need...does anybody know of any firefox extension that is as good as google's spell checker? I haven't been able to find any.

Where have you been? FF2.0 has an inbuilt spellchecker.

MS has done it to themselves too!

When I installed IE7, it told me that hotmail.com was a phishing site. I had a good laugh at that. Infact, I switched to Gmail. Ha!

I like how everything that competes with ms is somehow dangerous. I wonder if you can even try and download a linux distro without it complaining.
