Cas 2 vs Cas 2.5 (DDR)

Which is the faster of the two? I know that Cosair have now released some PC2400 RAM @ Cas2 but forget about that for now.

I'm wanting to know which is generally faster between, say a stick of Crucial Cas2 DDR RAM or Crucial Cas2.5 DDR RAM?

I'm pretty sure its Cas2.5.

Write back. Need to know.

Cas2 has less cycles which makes it faster.

Someone please back me up!

Welcome to the forums bro.

How much faster?

Like does it depend on brand overall or is it just general thing?

Do timings on the RAM itself have an effect ? ie, Cas2.5 RAM @ 7.5ns vs Cas2 Ram @ 8ns (make them figures up) - get what I mean?

It can't just be said that CAS2 Ram is faster overall right?

I wanna know if you can compare PC2400CAS 2 ram with PC2100Cas 2.5 ram? Like Obviously the PC2400 will ownz it like cos of the speed (300MHz as to 266MHz)... Back me up!!!1!11

cas latency is just another variable which affects overall performance, so just cos something's Cas 2 don't mean it's better than anything at Cas 2.5 or 3, but for equivalent speeds of the ram, the Ram with the lower Cas will have the edge.

I have seen many reviews where people have very successfully run cas 2.5 from crucial at cas 2 ie Dremel-Freek. It does depend on the quality of the memory.

Crucial on their site are honest enough to state that it is very unlikely that you will ever notice the difference between cas 2 and 2.5 in normal usage. Its like the Suzuki Hyabusa, it does 200mph, not so you can do it, but so that you know that you could if you wanted.

oh yeah, you can run it at a lower cas setting just as you can overclock it. and the ability to do so stabily does depend on the quality of the memory.

Crucial Cas 2.5 will do 2.0 ok, but then you won't be able to clock it so high before you get problems.
