Fallout 3 trailer released
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/06...ler_released/1
After a thirty-seven day countdown, Bethesda has released the first Fallout 3 trailer and it's moody as hell.

Heres hoping it's not Oblivion with guns, although I wouldn't mind it if the game was Deus Ex style.

It's looking good so far, I have to say.
The trailer does smack of the real Fallout atmosphere, and that allays my fears somewhat about Bethesda's ability to get it right. I suppose it's easy to forget that Bethesda don't only do Elder Scrolls games. Terminator: Future Shock, anyone? I just hope their deal with Liam Neeson doesn't leave them with a voice-acting budget of only 4-5 other actors, a la Oblivion. Having all the NPCs of different genders and races voiced by just 4-5 people completely killed the immersion for me in Oblivion.

Maybe it'll all be text based, with only prominent NPCs voice, like in the original?

I've not played much of the original Fallout series.
I suspect I missed out. I do have them available to install though so I may just get around to that before long...

You really did miss out Airchie! Fallout 2 is one of my all time favourite games, though install can be a bit tricky (No Mutants Allowed website makes it easy though).
Don't deny yourself the pleasure!

Honestly, if Bethesda just gave me Fallout 2 with a new engine (or even the same engine and some new sprites ), a new story/map and kept everything else mostly the same I'd be delighted. That's unlikely to happen.. but I'm not going to be pessimistic about this one. I was pessimistic when I first heard that Bethesda had bought Fallout 3, but for some reason that trailer alone has given me hope. Now to work on getting "Made Man", "Gigolo", "Porn Star" and "Child-killer" karmic titles again..

If it doesn't have the SPECIAL stats system then I'm going to go to their offices and ****. Everywhere.
To me, it's the stat system (karma, etc) that MAKE fallout games. That and Ron Perlman.

![]() ![]() ![]() Agreed 100% - When I think of Fallout I think of SPECIAL and the mature themes - Those are the defining aspects of the series for me, without even mentioning the excellent writing, dark humour, tactical combat, ugly-yet-beautiful artwork and 'linear open-endedness'. I'll be sad to see the turn-based combat go. It seems the majority of people detest the very concept of it and most don't have the patience for it, but I think it's what made the Fallout combat so thrilling and intellectually-satisfying. My joy and glee upon hearing Ron Perlman's voice in that trailer almost cross the boundaries of appropriate.

I don't know Fallout, so excuse this comment -
but is that the Citadel (of City 17) in the background?

yep...reminded me a lot...I don't know why there is such a thing...
Did anyone of you NOT find the game engine nice ? I am one such guy. I thinks it looks "old gen". I know they have more than a year (fall 2k8) to make it better, so if it's bad today what will it be ?

Old gen? Don't think so. If it's ALL in engine then we've got some very detailed textures on our hands, and we've not even seen physics and level sizes yet.

If the game engine really can handle that level of detail at such wide zoom ranges (close up of the radio, to far-off detail of the buildings), then it's pretty spectacular! Glad Fallout is back ![]() Sad we've got to wait 18 months

It didn't look old gen at all, imagine the Oblivion engine and then compare. It's much harder to render D3 engine style close up beauty in a massive open ended engine needed for an RPG like this. For such an engine, this looked pretty damn cutting edge.

i'm happy
FO 1 & 2 is by far the best series i've ever played. They better keep SPECIAL, i loved the perk system lol. I'll even play the MMO if/when it comes out, just 'cause I love the series so much. Quote:
