Windows wi-fi gone
I'm relatively new to the wi-fi scene since getting my laptop. One problem recently popped up and it's annoyed me almost to the point of smashing it to pieces against the sidewalk. Whenever I connect to the campus wi-fi network, none of my programs that connect to the Internet seem to work whatsoever. Specifically, these programs are:
Xfire Steam Hellgate London Bit Torrent MSN Messenger does actually work, but I suspect that's because it uses port 80 HTTP anyway. The above programs work flawlessly at home, but try to use them on another network they refuse to get a response. I know it isn't the campus proxy and have narrowed the problem down to my very own laptop. Wireless Zero Configuration, firewall, and all network connections excluding wi-fi are disabled. Has Windows decided to bind the machine entirely to my home network and refuse all traffic when on a foreign network? |

your campus is blocking the ports used, you could change from the defaults to the ports they allow, but you would have to sacrafice what normally uses that port

Hi,
I know it isn't the campus because all of the programs worked fine a few days ago and my friend is playing on Battle.net right next to me. I did a system restore a few minutes ago and the problem has been fixed. Note: the only recorded change to the system since that restore point was the installation of Hellgate London. I appreciate your help, though. Last edited by Amon; 7th Nov 2007 at 21:06. |
