8800GT or 9600GT..?
Alright so I'm being presented with a choice..
Get a 9600GT for free in exchange of my 7900GS.. Or pay 10-30$ more and get a 8800GT in exchange of my 7900GS.. I'm more then likely SLI'ing during the summer.. I'm just not sure which to get.. Advice?

the SLi scalling you get for 9600GT is quite amazing. so if you are sure you are going for SLi, 9600GT might get you better bang for bucks when SLi-ed

That's what I heard, the 88GT doesn't scale too well?

The 8800GT scales just fine, I'd get an 8800GT over the 9600GT. It is, after all, a faster card.

did a quick search here
seems to be both scales well, but 8800 just don't do as well as 9600GT when you do SLi and consider the bang for your bucks

So 96GT is the better choice here?

how much will 2 9600GT cost you? and 8800GT?
8800GT will offer better performance, but it really depends on how much you have to put in to say whether it's worth or not.

If I do the SLI, I'll only have to buy the second 96GT as the first is free. If I go for the 88GT, I'll have to pay 10-30$ for the first one and then buy the second full price.

I would say the 9600GT, as, like everyone has been saying, it does SLI well, and is cheaper. Don't forget that it's newer and smaller as well.

I think I'm gonna go with the 96GT.. Though I'm not sure if my PSU will handle 2 of them.. It's only 580W

You probably want to upgrade, as that PSU is most likely a pile of suck. Just looking at the +12v rails, they are rated at +18a and +16a each, which is only 408W across both, which is quite low for a power supply rated at 580W, as many 500W power supplies offer more +12v power. Although a quality 450W power supply could probably get away with running both cards, the Raidmax is most likely poor quality, so if I were you I would try to upgrade to a better quality power supply before getting SLI.

Any you would recommend?
How much should I be looking for on the 12v rails? 18-20A? Edit: I'm thinking of grabbing this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up getting the 9600GT for my 7900GS, and bought a second 9600GT, and ordered this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010

I'd avoid the OCZ, it has poor voltage ripple at high loads, as Bbq.of.doom, who is quite knowledgeable on PSUs ,will point out when he sees anyone about to buy a StealthXStream. If you can afford a Corsair VX550 or TX650, those would be great choices.

Unfortunately that's about as good as I could afford, I saw thex Corsair ones, and really wanted them, but I can't afford it.. If I find the OCZ to be unstable though, I'll swap it for something else if need be I guess, but I doubt I'll pass the 500W load level, so reaching anywhere near the 600W is highly unlikely.
Thanks for the warning though
