How to create bootable USB? Please Help!

Hello guys,
My friend's computer has been infected by virus very badly. It won't even let the win. xp (pre-installed on the computer) load properly. I tried to run command prompt but it won't let it. Now I have no option left other than to format his Hard drive and install new win. xp.
I have 2 GB USB.
Please someone help me create a bootable USB (that boots with command prompt) so that I can install downloaded WIN. XP S3 on his computer.
I just want to run MS DOS from my USB, that's all.

Any comments or suggestions of this kind'd be appreciated.

cheers,
xhunter.

it's windows 7, but the steps to get a USB drive bootable is the same, then you just need to seak out a working DOS or try copy XP stuff onto your thumb drive.

That'll help you create a bootable USB stick. Ignore the parts about a WinPE, and just run diskpart from your start>run in vista/7.

There is a HP utility floating around on the net if you can still find it that can take any floppy disk (think Win98 boot disk) and then setup a USB stick to boot.

I have used it many times with great success

Aye its still floating around however I haven't found a USB memory stick it will actually work with yet.

I used the following guide to make a USB boot installer for W7 when I was upgrading my work PC and no-one had burnt enough corporate DVDs for it:

http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-in...working-guide/

The method I'm sure could be adapted for Vista installs too.

But what I do not understand is why don`t you go with the cd and struggle with the USB? First of all is easy and second the USB must be formated in FAT32 and also sometimes is the driver for the controllers on some laptops which you have to load them before you install the WIn XP. I tried even with the cd and I couldn`t do it because of the drivers.

Linux?

Ubuntu certainly is very easy to put onto a bootable USB.
