Custom PC Benchmarks Suite 2007

Is there a leader board to submit the scores to?

Not at the moment - there was a leaderboard on the old CPC site, but it disappeared into the pages of history when the site was shut down earlier this year.

True, but then everyone can do it again using the new ones. The old benchmarks were based on a pretty low spec machine (iirc the cpc computer that gained 1000 points was a c2d E6700?)

There is a new benchmark suite in the works, but the development process is taking a back seat to writing CPC/bit-tech articles at the moment.

Be sure to let us all know when it's live.

And can it have a graphics and gpgpu test this time around?

There won't any graphics tests, as we already have a ton of games that we test with.

However, I'm hoping to include a GPGPU test of some sort, but as the philosophy is to only include real applications in the suite (i.e. not synthetic tests) this really depends on there being a suitable app available.

That's too different questions really, the benchmarks have been tested on XP, Vista and 7, so will generate results on those operating systems.

If you're asking will the scores be the same, then no, they won't, because each operating system has its own pros/cons in the way its coded/can take advantage of different hardware.

In short, XP 32-bit will generate slightly faster scores than Windows 7 64-bit - but that doesn't necessarily mean its a better operating system.

So... is there any fix for the "The display must be run in 32-Bit (True Colour) colour depth."? Any way to get past it?

There's no fix because only a couple of readers ever saw this issue and we could never reproduce it in house. It may not fix it, but have you tried updating your graphics drivers?

We need the new custompc benchmarks and a league table.

I want to see just how much faster a new system would be compared to my old system in real terms.

For the CPC 2007 benchies could we not just make a post which *magically* sorts people in order? [hwbot] style?
