Drugs, and drug users

Chimmy, you're largely right about drugs, but personally I hope you don't act out that perspective by patronising, demonizing, criticizing or lecturing people who use drugs (i.e. almost everybody). A lot of people who, for perfectly good reasons, disapprove of drugs end up being very disparaging and hostile towards people who are able to use drugs with no real disadvantages to themselves or others.

I also never tire of people (particularly in the US) who are violently hostile towards marijuana users but drink and smoke copiously themselves with no consideration of the effects of tobacco and alcohol.

Meh, I still give people a fair chance at not having me dislike them. A lot of people fail though, and honestly, the only people I can see myself lecturing about this stuff is my future children.

That's fair enough, but make sure you discuss openly as well as lecturing, lest you reverse-psychology them into just wanting to try drugs even more

I think a lot of parents do that. The main reason I've never been interested in drugs is because my parents were always happy to talk openly and in non-Garrisson terms about them.

Makes sense to me haha. Another big reason that I stayed away was that a lot of the people I knew that did/do drugs were assholes, and I didn't want to be associated with them.

Semi-related story time: One of my friends that does smoke weed and drink occasionally asked me one day why I stayed away from that stuff, he said that I was conforming to society and all that bullshit. I asked him how many people he knew that had never tried drugs or alcohol yet, and the only person he could think of was me, so I then asked him who was the one that was really conforming. Mind=blown.
