FYI Sandy Bridge & EVGA 580 points
Excluding the fact that SB has a flaw, doesn't affect me as yet, I woul just like to let you know that non-OCed SB 2600k and EVGA 580 have resurrected my folding capability. As well and having an unblocked VPN.
From 0 PPD to 24,000 PPD is not bad considering I used to only best at 5-6000 PPD. More to come obviously, regards and happy to be back ASUS Maximus IV Intel i5-2600K Crucial 16GB Ram 2x Crucial 64GB SSD in RAID ![]() ![]()

Yeah SandyBridge seems to fold very well!
I have the use of four i5 2500ks overclocked to 4.5GHz and my home machine has an i7 2600k. The i5s are about 10k PPD and the i7 about 15k PPD. |

Can you confirm that's 17K on a single, air cooled 580? Any overclock applied there?

So far yep - hasnt completed a full WU yet - but that is what HFM.NET is showing.
It is the GTX570 Shadow that has recently been reviewed on bit-tech |

I was actually asking George about his 580 - is yours a 570? You've got 580 in the thread title.
I'm now confused

HF is saying 17280, no overclock.
Just bumped it up to 850 core with linked shader Will update later as to point increase. Edit: 18.5kish at 850/1700/2000

I thought so, thanks for clarifying. 24K from a 580 + a 2600K would be a little low.
Quote:
I would only go for a 580 (or more) right now if I was going to use the machine for gaming and other high definition graphics applications as well as folding, but the pair of Core 216 edition GTX 260's in my gaming rig still run everything I need them to for now, and fold occasionally too.

Gave me some failed WU overnight, so I dropped it back to stock clocks, only got it yesterday so haven't had a chance to play around with OCs yet.
And yeah, the only reason I got it was because I got it from the states second hand, and mainly for benching.

Any WU returned with a passcode counts, so you could remove the BigAdv flag and just do normal smp WUs that would be a lot faster.
