ICQ saved password recovery
Never mind why I'm using this... quaint messenger at all - anyhow, the problem is that I don't remember my password, which had been saved on this PC for years, and still works. However, because of their stupid system, I have no means of recovering it, even if I email their tech support.
So as far as I can see my options are: - somehow find the stored one (I think I've seen the location mentioned somewhere) and then find something that would decrypt it; - sniff it when it's transmitted, but I've never done this before. I installed Wireshark and then signed in to my ICQ, which (apparently?) captured the packets where the password would be, but I've no idea what to do now. Other options include finding a prog that reveals passwords hidden behind asterisks, but the programmes I've downloaded don't seem to work on ICQ 7.5. Also a lot of software that purports to recover/decrypt passwords is either for old ICQ versions, or just looks extremely fishy. Any help would be much appreciated. |

I used to use ICQ long ago,its an OK program....
Now i can simply logon to ICQ using my AIM program ![]() You may be able to check your registry,i believe the password is stored there.... I know my AIM password is.... (Even though i dont save it,it does have a spot for password in the reg) Goto start/run and enter "regedit" then goto CURRENT USER/SOFTWARE and you should see ICQ listed in that list.. Expand that section and look for a section with your ICQ name listed and expand that..... Then look for an entry called "LOGIN" .. your password should be there.... (On my AIM entries the password entry is blank since i dont have it saved) Good luck buddy
