MKV to MKV Re-Encoding Software?
Hi Guys,
Wonder if anyone can help me, I've been digitalising my BluRay collection onto my home NAS and have been using a program called MakeMKV, it works brilliantly and converts my BluRays to an MKV file etc... The problem is when its finished converting I end up with the MKV being anywhere between 20-30GB and while they are amazing quality I just can't spare that amount of space per film so I need a converter that will let me Re-encode the MKV at a lower bit-rate but one of my main concerns is keeping the audio quality at DTS or DD in 5.1 etc. Most of the Re-encoding software I have tried so far will happily drop the bit-rate of the picture and I'm getting 10-12GB~ish sized files with great picture quality still BUT the best option I can find for the Audio re-encoding is AAC/AC3 which sounds crap on my surround sound compared to having the proper DTS or Dolby soundtrack! ![]() Does anyone know of any good software that can keep the Audio in its original format but drop the picture bit-rate etc? Any help is much appreciated

Try Freemake Video Converter. It's been a while since I used it for MKV but I'm pretty sure it'll allow to to keep the original audio. I know it can on AVI/XVID stuff if you choose the right preset.

I've been using this (linky), you'll be able to pass the audio straight through as AC3 (5.1) without changing it at all -or whatever the source audio is.
It's natively German but haven't had any problems with the English install. |
