I first lay down 3 coats of color, 1 scratch coat and two wet coats and finish with two top coats of clear. For the battle fatigue and damage ,after the clear has dried, I use 150 grit paper and scuff the paint away down to bare metal.Next I use a mixture of 50/50 gunmetal/flatblack and add the scorch marks around the exposed areasof bare metal. For the small scratches , i use a q-tip because of the small fiber hairs and tip it in Titan silver then lighty drag it aross the areas that I want scratch-up.

Think this is why I haven't got into painting yet, it's quite the process doing it right.

Ill use 3M masking paper to print my graphics on.
Ill cut some bristol board down to 8.5x14 inch so I can feed thru my printer.

Ill attach the 3M masking paper to the bristol board, then cut it to the same size as the bristol board.

In this shot you can see the two sheets applied together

Ill run the the panel thru my inkjet printer to get the graphics onto the 3M masking paper.

Ill cut several of these graphics out to be used at a later time.

Ill lay down the graphics and mark out the placement.

After masking off the area, Ill use a new, very sharpe X-acto blade to cut out the graphics.

I slowly begin cutting out each letter and being very careful not to cut or tear any edges.

Now that all the letters are cut out,I can begin laying down some color.
Enamel over Enamel.Acrylic over Enamel..never Enamel over Acrylic.

I start with a basecoat of gunmetal, the same as the case doors, followed by a lighter shade of metallic grey and finished with flat aluminum to get a gradient effect.

I peeled away the masking and applied a soft coat of sealer to protect the graphic, once dried Ill go in and pinstripe the letters and hightlight the edges.
In the same shot you can see more battle fatigue Ive applied around the edges.

http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC00325.jpg

Battle Fatigue and damage.

This is the final effect were going for.

A few more paint graphics Ill use later on in the build.

I got started on the front bezel, applied gold and gunmetal to inner panels and painted the base color in gunmetal and flat aluminum.

Ive masked of the area and highlighted the exposed areas in flat aluminum.

Ill simulate his under armor with this paint effect.

I build Iron Mans Helm to cover the 5.25 bays, they'll operated on a hinge with illuminated eyes.

In the next few shots Im mocking up the feet to the lower panel to get and overall feel of how my concept is coming together.

On my next update, Ill finish the Avengers logo, and start with the outer chest panel.

Stay Inspired and Keep Creating!

I'm not familiar with Iron man. But this build is awesome. Also have a question abou the "Testors Decal paper". Is it easy to use, and strong? Can i use it to apply tekst on anodized aluminium to tell the function of a button for example?

[center]

In both Iron Man movies,Marvel masks a reference to Captain America, the moments are subtle and you can see in the above pic the nod to Captain America.

I decided to make my own subtle hint into this mod.

The idea is to take the shield and build it into the case.

Im using 00.80 ABS plastic, measure out the shield and cut it out.I also added battle damage.

The next step is to mask off, and spray the red for the outer strip.

Now the inner strip.

Now Ill mask off the center strip, star, and spray with a titan silver.

And the final mask around the star is applied

.

The final color to complete the mask is applied.

I spray the titan silver around the stars edges and the blue to give a metallic shimmer look.

With all the mask removed you can see the final effect.I also went in applying the same battle fatigue to the shield as I did on the case doors.

The shield will be mounted on the "interior" of the case door. My nod to Captain America and a upcoming build.

Stay Inspired and Keep Creating

I dont really recommend this product,I prefer vinyl decals or paint graphics.I had to go with the decals because of the missile length and diameter was too small for a paint graphic.
