please dont leave that much voltage going through the chip all the time! it will ruin your cpu, excess heat and voltage leads to an increase in electromigration, because it degrades the electric paths in the cpu.

good read http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/...ectromigration

At "only" a 5.2GHz overclock as well.

My pelt setup should be in in the next month or so, so I should try clocking my i7 up. Right now it's actually so bad that my RAM is overheating too.

But yes, back that down a bit. You'll burn it up.

I know, I have been so tempted to buy 4GB of 2133MHz ram and OC it to 2200 along with a 5.3GHz OC on the cpu

Naw, I used a D14. I have taken it back a bit to 5.1 now, having 95 degrees under load was a little scary! I am going to iam for 5.4Ghz just for the hell of it though, but when i changed the base clock it didn't like it one bit!

And no, I'm not the guy from EVGA forum, sounds like I'll have to remember his mistakes!

Try and keep the temps below 150c and voltage below 2.4v

May want a second fan on your heatsink.

95C! Mine tops out in an IBT run at 58C(delta of 34C), with all my fans on low!

I tend to take 100c as the panic point, but it only hits those temps when Prime is doing it's thang. I have 2 fans on the 'sink itself, but I've backed off a little now, I've got stuff to do and I really can't be bothered with working around a silly overclock when I'm designing.

**** son... Have you scaled back that voltage yet? That is huge. I only need 1.3 for my Sig.

I've seen posts like this before. It almost feels like an april fool's joke, guy comes along and announces insanely high voltages and is very flippant about temps of 90c+ oh and let's not forget the air cooling rather than water. Everyone gets into a flap and tries to talk him out of it but he remains flippant and couldn't care less...

The guy over at EVGA forum 3 years ago was very similar although not quite so flippant.

It almost feels like a windup but I guess it's not.

I've put 1.64 through mine but only for 10mins for benching, then turned back down again.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't put anymore than say 1.425 for a 24/7 overclock.

I should explain, I wasn't trying to be flippant, I was just shocked that it was able to hit that speed. I would never run it like that 24/7 (having looked up what can happen erk...) I've gone back to 4.6GHz now, I was doing some CAD and it crashed before I got around to saving it.....2 hours of work gone, angry me, and lesson learned. It was fun when it was working though!

My i5K is a crap voltage one. I need 1.5+ to reach 4.9ghz and considerably higher for 5ghz. Haven't been able to stabilise 5ghz with the 1st bios the mobo came with. 2 bios updates later and I might give it a go again.

Have you tried 4.9ghz? Might be worth seeing what voltage u need for that. Some people get there with less than 5v.

I'll give it a try, I haven't got round to lowering the volts on a 5.3 O/C yet, tonight seems good!

I've been using the standard BIOS my board came with so far, I'll have to see if an update helps, and I sincerely hope you meant to type 1.5V!
