And hello again.
I've been thinking a lot whether I should publish here worklog of my first modding project - despite the enormous complexity, its looks like a ghetto modding (with a touch of cyber-punk).
Mods on this forum are much better and more accurately.
But, finally I reject doubts aside - since I've no qualms about to put my creation on the CM2011, then why not try it here?
Maybe my first mod seems to be interesting for someone, I hope...
Well, or at least, boast on what are capable Russian harsh men (or Ukrainian, which is the same).
So, here we go...

This is my first modding project, which is made for myself.
Here you don’t see any laser cutting, plex windows, UV illumination, water cooling, aerography or even painting.
Just only handwork, in part looks like a getto-modding.
Mod is complete and fully operational.

INTRODUCTION

In that time I have no PC at home.
So, I have to establish my workplace into the niche with dimension 800x2100x500mm (WxHxD):


Due to space limitations, I decided to decline from the table to placing keyboard, mouse, and the system unit.
Monitor can be placed on the wall, keyboard and mouse place on suppots (as a console) like this:



CONCEPT

First concept:

When I bought gaming keyboard and fan control panel, concept was reengineered:

Now the quantity and destination of limbs are defined:
no1 – for main keyboard,
no2 – for mouse pad (on the right),
no3 – for gaming keyboard (on the left),
no4 – for monitor holding,
no5 – for 3’5” HDD bay fixing,
no6 – for 5’25” DVD bay fixing.

Getting Started

As a workpiece for manipulators LCD wall mounts were chosen:


Furniture gas shock absorbers were used for actuators imitation:

As you can see here is no the table to place keyboard.
That's right - the keyboard fixed on the four pneumatic cylinders:

For credibility an air distributor added:


Made from antenna splitters, pneumatic pipes and mineral wool fixers (orange colored).

Absolutely astonishing! Are you planning on putting any braid on the air hoses, or just leaving them as is? I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes

Do the pistons actually move the mounted items, keyboard etc ?

All manipulators are fixed, no actuators. But it's position may adjust by height for the convenience.

Let’s take a look at the middle part of monster.
Element that connects the upper and lower parts of the structure, I decided to make the likeness of the robot Droideka from "Star Wars":


It’s a flexible structure, reminiscent of the animal’s spine, or its mechanical analogue - a flexible cable conduit:


These are used in industrial robots:


Element of rigidity is a composite tube 1 inch, wearing in a metal hose, curved at the place:


Chain made from metal profiles for fastening rails gypsum board system, plugs for securing insulation panels, rivets, water pipe clips:

And now some words about the system case.
I bought small form case at first and demount it:


Case dimensions only 140x410x380mm (WxHxD), but it’s still too large for my purpose. I have to reduce its size.
It was shortened, 3’5” and 5’25” bays are dismantled.
It is assumed that the case will be deployed expansion slots to the user, as in industrial PCs:


Two 60mm fans are installed outside the chassis and 2-slot turbine mount on the HDD’s place. As a antivibration devices a pad rubber sealing rings are used (from the 50mm drain pipe system).

Case fixed on the telescopic rails, like in the server cases in 19” cabinets. Furniture rails mount on the outer side of structure:


Then I used a pair of steel furniture angle supports (for shelves), four electrical isolators 25mm (red colored) and the aluminum support of the furniture leg:

It’s time to think how to perform an upper part of construction.
Ceiling mount part decided to perform on the analogy with the base swivel turret.
The base should be a circle, after rummaging in the pantry, pulled out a holder for sterilizing jars (for domestic sealing in jars).
Combined two holders along with six long bolts.
The main supporting structure is a mechanism for transforming the couch, here is a drawing:


Side parts are holders for shoes cupboard:


Then put it all together, add a shock absorber from scooter, four electrical isolators 40mm and a couple of corners - and there is ready:

Men crazy system

My lovely part of mod – control console. Someone found similarity with a combine scanner camera:


and a Alliance stationary surveillance camera:


The "big eye" will be POWER LED, and small one - HDD LED. Remains to add the POWER and RESET buttons, then lower the construction at a comfortable height.
Digging in the storeroom, I found the old Soviet peephole – it was decided to use as a lens for the POWER LED. Then I bought two more door peepholes.
The unifying element was the furniture-type hinge "grasshopper":

A box from an antenna splitter was used for routing the wires.
As a winding of wires was used spiral electric heating element:


Also used cable glands, mounting strip, sanitary clamps, and, of course, metal hose for the wires to the system unit:


Part with the optics used as a lens for the HDD LED, and parts with shutters used for installation the buttons, marked via smiley labels:


"Petals" around the "eyes" made from remains of the plinth iron clamps after assembly "machine-gun cartridge belts":


Adjust the case holders on the “ceiling turret”:


Then fix "ridge" pipe with a few steel angles, stove spreader and attachment from railing system 25mm.
Monsters “head” fixed via "grasshopper" furniture hinge and two bar holders:


Approximately at the middle of "ridge" secured two holders (furniture bar holders with srings):


which will then be attached to the power supply unit:


The power supply unit was been slightly modified - loops of wires to a bays of 5,25 and 3,5 extend to 1,2 m, tightened in the metal hose, other wires also extended, but still left without sheath.

In place of an output cord assembly from the PSU, installed a small aluminum box, through it organized output of wires into five directions:


Also install assembled " control console on arm from a table lamp, adjust the height and depth positions for usability:


All the vitally important wires are connected, and it works!

It looks like it has self-assembled right then and there - like those machines from "Virus".
