Somewhat silly sound question (5.1 to 2)
So my sound card has 2 channel analogue output (Asus Xonar Essence STX) so basically only left and right; and yes, I realise it's made for high-end headphones, and I mostly use it that way - however, I've got an old 5.1 set lying around (iirc a Creative Inspire T5400, can't check the exact model atm), and sometimes I'd like to have music in the background without wearing stuff on my head.
Is it at all possible to connect them through some splitters or whatever? As far as I remember, the set has three cables from the sub to the sound card (one for center/sub, front and rear respectively). Otherwise, if it's not possible/not worth it, any good stereo speakers you would recommend? |

It's possible but you will only get Stereo, and if you plug the Sub and Center speakers in, one will be the left channel, one will be the right.
You might be able to pick up an adapter that does it all. One came with my Logitec's. Phono to 3x minijack.
