Windows Phisical medial games for windows live and save files

I just played 80% of Batman arkham city and had to format my pc. I noticed that the save files are gone, even though I can connect to my GFWL account and my account does show the achievements I have obtained, however when I reinstall arkham city back, I noticed the all save files are gone. I did a backup and replaced the backup file immediately but no luck.

Any way to fix this?

This problem is similar to another GFWL, Blazblue Calamity Trigger. I think this is an inherent problem with physical media games and GFWL. I am not sure though.

It goes on about hunting down your encryption key in order for GFWL to work with the backup saved files

BACKUP
Your actual save file is backed up on Steam Cloud, so I wouldn't worry about it. However, if you're paranoid about it, copy out the Steam\userdata\<id>\57400\remote folder.
That being said, this save file will ONLY work with your GFWL encryption key, so you'll need to back that up. Simply copy the aforementioned XLive directory to your backup.

I did read that thread before posting. I bought the DVD on ebay so did not go through steam, though I did go through GFWL.

Did you backup the xlive folder as well?

The only folder I backed up were the folders in My Documents. The Batman save games come under the WB Games folder.

Go to this location:
Steam version: Program Files\Steam\username\SOMENUMBERS\57400\remote
Retail: Users\USER NAME\Documents\WB Games\Batman Arkham City\SaveData

follow this simple step:
right click on Remote(folder) or SaveData (folder) -> properties then tab over to previous versions and select the most recent folder that contains the save you need and restore. When you copy files you have to suggest create save files backups. When you want to backup your Batman saves to re install your OS you also have to backup the Xlive folder located at Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft

Seems to suggest you need to backup the xlive folder too. I'm not 100% on all of this though so hopefully someone else may have been through the exact same thing as you.
