Worth replacing this monitor?

Hi

I've just ordered a new desktop PC after having a laptop for a while. I plan to make use of a monitor I used to use, a BenQ FP241W. However, it's getting on a bit now having first come out in 2006. So I was just wondering whether screen technology has moved on much since and whether it's worth replacing?

Ideally it would be with another IPS screen as I need the viewing angles and screen quality for watching films. I've been looking at the Asus PA238Q which seems quite nice for £200~ but is it really worth me replacing the BenQ unless I wanted to get a 27" or bigger? Also what difference would a 120Hz screen like the BenQ 2410/20T make to gaming?

Thanks

If your monitor still works and does what you want it to, why replace it? Unless you feel the need to spend money of course lol I'd get a Dell U2312M or an LG IPS235V for that sort of money.

If all you're doing is watching films, I wouldn't get an IPS screen above 24" as it'll have a huge resolution which won't help films at all and will cost you considerably more.

120Hz is down to the person in question, some say it's smoother for games others can't tell the difference. Obviously depends how much of a hardcore gamer you are.

Yeah, it still works although it has developed a slight buzz although that could have been there all along I can't remember.

Well I'm not just watching films on it, if I was I'd buy a 32" TV or something :P but I do regularly watch TV shows and films in between general PC use and gaming. I wouldn't say I'm a hardcore gamer, mainly the likes of Civ 5, BF3, Skyrim a few hours a week.

Do you play fast FPS? 120Hz is (mostly thought of as) better

If not don't bother. Its the really fast turns that you do in FPS that are captured better without doing your eyes in.

Keep your existing monitor unless you want to go up in size or resolution, and then look at the 27" Dells or Samsungs.

I remember that the FP241W was a pretty decent monitor in its day. I say, use it and if it comes up short there's always time to get something else.
