Ok. Blue team is it? Sell me on intel
I'm considering the switch from AMD to intel.
Right now I have a Phenom II 1090T that's 2 years old. I have a AM3+ Board so I could easily just drop a FX 8350 and hit the ground running for 200 USD. I need a reason to justify not only a $200-$400 CPU but a $200-$400 Mobo as well. Is there honestly $400-$800 Benefit there?

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/701?vs=697 Is it worth it? Up to you. The FX-8350 is a bit better in most multi-threaded benchmarks due to the extra cores, but Intel wins hands down in single thread performance and gaming. The situation might also change when the chips are overclocked. The Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H is $120 by the way and will get you to 4.5GHz without any issues.

There is probably some construction going on outside of their offices and they are just naming them after equipment they see:
Bulldozer - old rubble being cleared away Piledriver - construction begins Steamroller - laying of the new tarmac

Let's hope that they give up on the 'look out of the window, name new architecture on what I see' way of doing things - we could have

Just like everyone said wait for bulldozer?
If there is one thing you can be sure of with AMD, it's that they will never live up to expectations. Go with Intel, overclock it and don't look back, even if you do you look back you will never be able to see AMD as it will be lagging so far behind. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2 |

I do wish they'd stop naming their CPUs after slow, lumbering, machines.
Although, calling one a DB9 would be a bit disingenuous, wouldn't it?

We seem to have got slightly off-topic fairly quickly...
It all depends on what you're using your PC for - what are your main uses?

What res do you play at? Given your gpu, you have a very capable gaming rig already. Going to intel will see a frame rate improvement, but it won't be massive. I personally wouldn't value the improvement at $400 - 800.

The 8150 was a fake 8-core, the 8350 is a real 8-core, and the next one is supposed to be an 8-core with better single-threaded performance.

Is the power consumption and slight fps gains worth a $400-800 investment?
Maybe to some but I would choose to wait it out. Another story if your just itching to upgrade, in which case I would thrown in nice SSD (if you don't already have one of course) and maybe the fx-8350 (depending on how itchy the itch) and be happy until next gen release. |

If you're aiming for gaming you might want a look at this.
